Think that we ought to have someone warming in the 'pen before Ortiz throws a pitch.

I'll just be happy if Morrow throws as scheduled and pain-free on Sunday. With our luck there's probably just as much chance he cuts his finger and is lost for the season.

Villanueva has been great with the Cubs this year. Cubs got a steal by signing him for two years and 10 M. However, the Jays did not match the contract and told him that there was no room in the rotation for him, with great pitchers like Romero and Beuhrle guaranteed spots in the rotation. Shame that AA could not promise him a 5th starter job.

Sure, let's guarantee a starting role to someone who has not yet been able to stay healthy for a full season as a starting pitcher.

Brilliant idea.

Of course, moving out of the AL East and into the NL Central has nothing to do with Villanueva's start, does it ?

And of course the Jays did not match the contract. They couldn't match the contract. Villanueva was a free agent and could choose who he wanted sign with. How do you know the Jays didn't offer him 10m over 2 years ? Considering Happ's deal, it's not out of the realm of possibility that the Jays would have given Villanueva the same deal the Cubs did.

What they wouldn't give him is assurance that he would be in the starting rotation and they were right in not doing so.

sounds like a solid plan, seriously. brad high-n-low leverage lincoln should already be loose.

Villanueva wanted to come back to Toronto but the Jays did not make him an offer after acquiring Beuhrle, Dickey, Johnson, and told him to look elsewhere. Those were Villanueva's own words. Sure moving out of the AL East helps, but Carlos pitched well last year as well. Alex would rather pay 18 M and 19 M to Beuhrle the next two years instead, and he is a guy who should not be pitching in the AL East.

DeRosa turns double plays way better than Bonifacio ever could.

This team is impossible to like. They're so weak-willed under pressure - it's past balls, errors, bad double-plays, etc. The Boston commentators are actually talking about it now.

I've been watching a lot of baseball lately. It's fun to compare the different ballparks. The rogers centre really pales compared to some of them :s
