How do you know the Jays didn't offer him 10m over 2 years ? Considering Happ's deal, it's not out of the realm of possibility that the Jays would have given Villanueva the same deal the Cubs did.

Villanueva wanted to come back to Toronto but the Jays did not make him an offer after acquiring Beuhrle, Dickey, Johnson, and told him to look elsewhere. Those were Villanueva's own words. Sure moving out of the AL East helps, but Carlos pitched well last year as well. Alex would rather pay 18 M and 19 M to Beuhrle the next two years instead, and he is a guy who should not be pitching in the AL East.
