If you project about 450 ABs for JPA, he's on pace for a 162/6 K to BB ratio.

Exactly this. JPA wouldn't start anywhere else in the MLB, yet he's given the keys to a team which is supposedly good enough for the playoffs. Fat chance. Alex deserves credit for many things he's done since taking over but I hold him in equal contempt for JPA alone. JPA is like an infomercial you laugh at. Bum defense and bum offense, it's actually painful to watch some fans try and defend this guy, proof that Rogers and AA have in fact swallowed people whole with their talentless marketing boy. But at the end of the day all we have to do is look at the bad record, bad stats and 15000 attendance.

Just spectacularly bad roster management by AA there. No two ways around it.

JPA's 2 walks are last in the league for any batter who qualifies (tied with Jeff Kepinger - Kepinger has 2 fewer ABs and 39 fewer Ks).

JPA's 54 strike outs to 2 walks has to be the worst ratio of all time for any batter this late into a season. It's a good thing he has good power for a catcher because he brings absolutely nothing else to the table. His pretty looks can only take this team so far.

Sadly, that might be the only thing worth watching this summer as far as the Jays go.

As Hayhurst went on to say, the maddening thing about JPA is that he basically says he won't change his approach at the plate and everyone has to accept him as he is. This is not a guy who shortens up with two strikes, or lays off a first pitch unless it is so far out of his reach that has no chance to make any contact.

That's one of the reasons I've been advocating for Thole to be promoted, to take the case of Blanco: Do something to shake JPA out of this complacency. Platoon him until he gets the message that he has to adjust his plate approach, or the team will mitigate the damage by batting Thole against right-handers

Ask the average fan if JP is having a good season, or if he's a good catcher, and 9/10 will say yes. JP won't become a target for awhile. AA basically leaned on the sub-core of JP, Lawrie, and Rasmus, and despite their flaws being exposed last year, he hoped at least one of them would figure it out. They haven't and this team won't go anywhere with this trio as integral pieces.

I'm never going to accept this guy as our catcher but I will accept that he is who he is.

The odd thing I find about his approach to the game is, he's supposed to have some sort of idea of what pitches to call behind the plate, after all that is a catcher's responsibility right? How this doesn't translate towards his thinking while hitting is difficult to understand.

Somehow his HR% has gone up while his walk% went down .Also, his k% is higher than ever before.

Temporaily I'm fine with Thole up here however I don't think any of our catchers right now will be able to make much of a difference on this season. Ideally we need a better catcher in our organization. The problem is the trade market is thin and theres only 4 catchers in the top 100 prospects (1 of which we just traded away). Maybe AA and the Jays don't think catching is an important part of the game, which is why we have to put up with Arencibia like Hayhurst says.

I am not a fan of JPA in any way... But I"d just LOVE to see Gomes' stats over a full season. He sucks. There are a lot of other players we can get mad about who aren't Yan Gomes.

No, Gomes isn't very good. A hot streak doesn't suddenly make you a good hitter. You'd like people here would have learned that already from watching Arencibia.
