Do we sell high on Lind at the trade deadline?
Lind right now is batting .342/.423/.523. Hes only had 15 at bats against lefties and is still hitting .467 against them.
He has shown a more patient approach this year and has looked like a completely different hitter. He would be 3rd in AL batting avg if he had enough plate appearances.
Lets say that at the deadline that Lind is batting .315/.380./.493. Also lets assume that the Jays are not in the playoff race at the deadline
Do we sell high on Lind? Or keep him for next year?

I say keep him. God knows the Jays need .300 hitters. Maybe he's another late bloomer.

depends on what you can get.. most likely you wont get much, in that case id just keep him- especially if you want to make a run again next year

Sell high. Lind can't be relied upon going forward. There is more than enough evidence over his career of that.

This might be the work of Chad Mottola. He was with Las Vegas last year and they hit really well. i'd like to see him stay for another year. He's been one of the few brightspots this year. Trading him wouldn't make sense unless we got something of quality to show the fans. Otherwise, casual fans will look at a trade where we send the player with the best batting average on the team away in a season that's already pretty much lost.
It would just signal that management decided to forego this year.

We wont get back that much in trade so dealing him makes no sense.
Better to just hold onto him and hope this stretch is forreal.

More than the nothing you'll get if you buy him out of his contract at the end of the season, which the Jays may end up inevitably doing (assuming this streak of his ends).
Other than perhaps Janssen, there is no better sell high candidate on the Jays than Lind considering the team's current standing and his poor track record, age, and contract situation. It's just not all that difficult to find a replacement platoon DH that provides what he does.

Thanks for pointing out what every league executive knows. Selling high on a player whose being paid a fair chunk after a few months of good ball? We'd be lucky to get a C level prospect.

Sounds more than good enough for me. Let somebody else pay his contract for the rest of this (likely meaningless) season and pay the $3.5M buyout.
The Jays have been waiting for this guy to contribute something of value for three entire seasons of crap and now that he finally has, they should take advantage of it and dump him while they can. It's the kind of deal nobody thought would be possible just two months ago.

Re: Do we sell high on Lind at the trade deadline?
Not only is Lind's value low, but he also plays the easiest position in baseball as far as finding talent, so how many contending teams actually need 1B/DH's? Oakland? Pittsburgh? And even in those two cases, will they be ready to pay the remainder of Lind's 2013 salary plus the buy out?
The only real benefit to trading him is saving money on declining his option. From a talent standpoint, it will accomplish nothing, since it is not like the Jays have a 1B in the system that is ready to take over.

Would rather have the ability to save the money and spend it on something that can provide more value than a platoon DH (or at least on a platoon DH that won't cost $7M the following year to keep). If the Jays are still out of contention come the deadline, dumping him on anybody you possibly can is a no brainer.

Re: Do we sell high on Lind at the trade deadline?
I'd sell, as well.
We have a pretty ugly salary crunch coming up, and Lind's deal escalates to $7m next year. There's bound to be some regression...he's currently exceeding his career BABIP by 94 points, and while his numbers would still be fairly decent if you dropped that into the range that his batted ball splits suggest (around .285/.365/.420 or thereabouts) we really cannot afford to pay $7m to a part-time DH/1B. If we can move that money off the books and acquire a middling prospect, we kinda have to do it.

Don't look now, but Adam Lind has an fWAR of 1.2. He's on pace for a solid 3 WAR season.
If Adam Lind were playing for another team, these are the types of players that AA (and us fans) would love to scoop up. Sure, he can regress, and maybe he's over achieving, but at $5m this season and $7m next season, he's actually going to be worth the money or so it seems.

Re: Do we sell high on Lind at the trade deadline?
It's unclear whether you could get much for him right now. Are teams going to give a decent piece for a guy who's sucked for three years prior?
I say keep him. If he regresses and sucks the remainder of the year, the buyout isn't too onerous. If this is the old Adam Lind (of the silver slugger variety), the options are an absolute bargain, and he becomes much more valuable as a trade chip.

Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Re: Do we sell high on Lind at the trade deadline?
My instinct is to sell but if there's a tangible reason for his improvement I'd hold. If there is one, AA knows about it. Much like Bautista changing his pre pitch routine, or that Grantland article from a few days ago about Chris Davis doing a drill that taught him to use all fields. Lind looks like Joey Votto right now.
Two wrongs don't make a right, and three rights... make a left.

Re: Do we sell high on Lind at the trade deadline?
How can you sell high on a player than has limited defensive value and has only knocked the cover off the ball for 2 months?
Lind has some option years coming up. The discussion should be about whether or not the Blue Jays will pick up those years or let him walk at the end of the year.

Part of the issue is that declining the options would mean eating $3.5m in buyouts.
