The ongoing and seemingly never-ending rehab thread

Post#1 » by dagger » Tue Jun 25, 2013 9:33 pm

Lawrie - Starting rehab in DUN tomorrow, way sooner that Gibbons thought yesterday when he predicted two weeks

Santos - will throw innings for DUN on July 1-4-7, then move on to BUF for back to back outings. Says he's been using Delabar's weighted ball thingie with good success.
Gregor Chisholm ‏@gregorMLB 17m
Santos is scheduled for three rehab outings with Class-A Dunedin. Will then head to Buffalo and hopes to return after All Star Break.

Drabek - in progress with DUN

While Drabek has no immediate claim on a 25-man spot, the progressive additions of Reyes, Lawrie, Morrow and Santos will continue to create speculation on the roster movements needed to accommodate them. Seeems likely to be McGowan or Kawasaki out first. Ultimately, both seem likely to go, the issue seems more in the sequencing.

John Lott ‏@LottOnBaseball 34m
Gibbons says move will come after tonight's game. Also said he likes four LHPs in the pen. Refuses to say more.

Gregor Chisholm ‏@gregorMLB 13m
FWIW, lots of mentions suggesting they think Perez will be DFA'd for Reyes. Gibbons seems to like the four LHP, I don't think it'll be him.

John Lott ‏@LottOnBaseball 37m
Gibbons says Jays have "pretty good idea" who will be dropped to make room for Reyes. Wagner? "He's got nothing to worry about."

Gregor Chisholm ‏@gregorMLB 19m
There's also next to no chance that Perez would clear waivers. Based on his ability to throw multiple innings, I bet he sticks around.

Pssh...Drabek can hang out in the minors. If he proves he can mentally handle minor failures, ie not freaking out at himself when he throws a ball, then we can talk.

Let put him in the bullpen, it has worked out for Casey and Brett.

Holy crap, Santos has been using the weighted balls? 102mph here we come!
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Supposedly, he's not expecting to throw harder. The idea was to build up the shoulder to the point where he can resist injury better.

Brett Lawrie with an RBI single in his first DUN at bat, Sanchez perfect through two innings.

Which is what ultimately matters most. I really hope that the weighted balls have some effect...anything that lowers the catastrophic rate of career-limiting shoulder injuries in baseball is a great thing.

Here's a piece on Santos.

With a lot of teams looking for relief pitching, I wonder if Santos comes back strong, can the Jays deal a surplus relief pitcher or two for an upgrade somewhere else. They still have Stilson and Carreno in BUF.

Every couple years there's a team on the fringe that goes bananas for relief help and gives something of real value up. It was Colby and the Cards last time and it worked pretty well for them. So everybody cross everything you've got that PIT can't put the package together for Stanton, get freaked, and we send them Oliver, J.Perez, Wagner, and McGowan for Taillon to give them all the relief depth they need. :D

This is a dream. Santos comes back strong and we move him before he gets injured again, the odds aren't in our favour.

Jon Morosi ‏@jonmorosi 7s
In sum: Drabek on rehab assign; Hutchison and Happ live batting practice; Morrow in throwing program. None likely for majors before Aug.

Injured last year, injured again this year, playoffs are stil a long shot. I'd shut him down.

Injured the year before last year and shut down in August the year before that to limit his innings. He better be on the Cecil and Delabar program if he's not going to get his ass back up here before September. Looks like we'll be seeing a lot more Wang this season.

Unless we go on a similar run again like we did with the 11 game win streak, I honestly don't see this team going into the playoffs. Jon Morosi said it best, you can't have JP and Colby in your lineup and expect to go to the playoffs. He also suggested may be it would be best for Morrow to go to the bullpen for next season.

To take an effective pitcher out your rotation makes no sense. Neither does taking out one of our more productive players(rasmsus). Why is he getting the brute of blame for izturis/bonafacio.

Morrow hasn't been effective since last May, and even with that he has ALWAYS been inconsistent. Rasmus is a disappointment. Honestly would rather have Rajai in centre when Melky is back.

Rasmus has been top ten at his position this year. Between wanting Bautista to be amnestied, Rasmus to be benched, and Francoeur to be signed to play third, you have some rather interesting ideas about lineup management.
