Good. Kawasaki never should have been demoted (and should still be starting against RHP). And maybe a bit of rest will stop Melky from being as useless as he has been so far. He's not anywhere close to the player he was in 2011 or 2012 and the Jays need that Melky going forward.

I know he's been a bit hampered by the injury but Melky has been a disappointment IMO. I expected less doubles and HR's but coupled with that average, he seems like a ridiculously average player, not worth 8mil per.

He's been a bad player. Not hitting, fielding, or running well and it's likely because he's been playing hurt all season. The hope is that this will help.

It makes sense but why didn't they just do this 2 days ago?

Good. Davis is better than Melky right now in the outfield. Decision on Kawasaki will need to be made again in about 2-3 weeks when Lawrie comes up.

Did we burn our last option for Kawasaki though?

Options are not single send downs. Using an options gives you the right to send someone down for an entire season.

So even if we used Kawasaki's last option year, it's a problem that needs to be sorted out next season.

yup, think about the amount of times we have sent McCoy back to AAA during that one season.

I guess that means Davis starting at LF and Boni backing him up.

And maybe Kawasaki at 2B? I don't know why this isn't a more seriously considered option.

Melky has been pretty damn terrible. Needs to lose weight.

I wasn't overjoyed at the Melky signing; his numbers before the PED infringements were fringe regular-worthy, and he's back to that level of performance now.

Hopefully the reason is injury and not lack of PEDs. He's basically a slap hitter right now, perhaps because his legs are bothering him so much that he can't use them to generate any power.

Good to see Kawasaki back; hopefully it means less Bonifacio.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

He was a 4 WAR player with a .809 OPS, .350 WBA and 119 RC+ in his one season with KC.

His numbers this season are well below that level. Strange, I didn't see a PED suspension that season.

There is little reason to believe that it's anything but injury related.

He' has not become a slap hitter; i've seen plenty of gappers where he has been held to a single. If he has issues with both his hamstrings, it's seems fairly plausible why he's posting the numbers he is.

Hopefully the rest does him well, because this team needs a semi-healthy Melky instead of this broken down version. But the thought of Rajai Davis for two weeks against righties is not very appealing.

If Melky's issues persist and Pillar keeps hitting, I wonder if we may see him at a later point this season, because Rajai has proven throughout his career that facing righties is a recipe for failure.

Might see a Rajai/Bonifacio platoon in left with Kawasaki at 2B. I like Kawa and think he should be with the team, but I was hoping they'd replace Melky with an actual outfielder and avoid the scenario I mentioned.

Problem is, which outfielder ?

Gose has fallen off a cliff this year in Buffalo. His K% is at an all time high, and he's hitting grounders at the same unbelievable rate (62%) that Wang was inducing them in his first couple of starts

Sierra is striking out 25% of the time in Buffalo and looked worse than even Rajai against righties last year. Him and Rajai on the same roster is fairly redundant.

Pillar has had only ~30 plate apperances in AAA, so regardless of how good he has looked, it's too early.

Unfortunately you're right that the best possible outcome here, until Melky comes back, is likely a Rajai/Boni platoon.

And until both Melky andl Lawrie return, in addition to Rajai/Boni in left, our optimal lineup probably also includes a Kawasaki/Izturis platoon at second and Izturis/DeRosa platoon at third.

All this means is get well guys, get well real soon, please.

You don't know when Melky started using PEDs (it could have been before he even entered the majors), nor do you know he's stopped using them now.

It's clear he's been injured most of the year. It takes forever for him to get up to speed and when he does it looks like he'll never stop
