Jose ALVARES LHP VS RA DICKEY RHP - Canada Day - Game 1 of 4

Alvarez got the first loss of his career after allowing four earned runs and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings against the Angels on Wednesday. He has a 3.78 ERA with a 1-1 record in three starts filling in for Anibal Sanchez.

Dickey is coming off his best start of the season after he tossed a two-hit shutout vs the Rays. He walked just one batter in that outing and seemed to solve a lot of the control issues which have plagued him earlier in the year.

Doug FISTER RHP VS Ching MING WANG RHP - July 2nd - Game 2 of 4

Fister has delivered quality starts in six of his last seven outings but won only one of them thanks to a dearth of run support. The latest saw seven innings of one-run ball against the Angels wasted in a no-decision Thursday

Wang struggled mightily in his previous outing against the Red Sox. He lasted 1 2/3 innings and gave up all seven runs of a 7-4 loss. He has two quality starts in four appearances this season.

Max SCHERZER RHP vs Josh JOHNSON RHP - July 3rd - Game 3 of 4

Max Scherzer, the first pitcher since Roger Clemens in 1986 to start a season 12-0, goes for his 13th win against the Blue Jays. Scherzer held the Rays to four hits over seven innings in his last start, striking out nine.

Johnson pitched just 3 1/3 innings in his last start, giving up five runs and eight hits against the Red Sox. Since returning from a triceps injury in early June, he's recorded a 1-1 record with a 4.08 ERA.

Justin VERLANDER RHP vs King Esmil ROGERS RHP - July 4th - Game 4 of 4

Verlander allowed nine hits and walked four Saturday in a no-decision against the Rays. He and manager Jim Leyland were pleased with the changes Verlander has made in his delivery, altering the tilt of his shoulders

King Esmil is 2-1 with a 2.27 ERA in the month of June. He is coming off one his best starts on the road vs Boston 6 innings, 6 strikeouts and 6 hits.

I predict 3 of 4 for the good guys. We'll hand Mad Max his first loss of the year.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

I predict 4 baseball games will be played. Would like a split and love a win. Detroit is a damn good team.

With Lind and DeRosa hurt, we're going to have what amounts to a 1 man bench tomorrow of Kawasaki unless a move is made before the game starts. Pretty ridiculous.

I figure they will send down a reliever before the game and call up a bat...what bat I don't know?

Sierra? Gose (doubtful)?

I figure an outfielder since they have Kawasaki for the infield but who knows

Detroit is very vulnerable now... Overall their bats have quieted down and their bullpen is a disaster... If they can chase the starters from the game and be patient at the plate the results will be good... However Detroit has amazing starting pitching and if the BlueJay bats play into that then the results will surely be losses.

It's going to be an interesting challenge to make a move. What reliever to send down. Either Perez or McGowan would have to be exposed to waivers. Wagner wouldn't have to be, but seems to be the one Gibbons trusts of those three, and probably is most deserving of staying. Could put DeRosa on the 15-day DL, and bring up Sierra or Gose, both of whom are on the 40-day roster.

Yup, just literally saw the tweet after I posted. I'm surprised it's open with the way Dickey pitched in Tampa...

Might as well just DL DeRosa. In fact, might as well just hand him a clipboard at this point and make him a coach. Don't know how a guy that plays once a week gets injured.

Why not Kevin Pillar instead of Gose and Sierra - he has blown through 5 levels in in 2 years and is blasting AAA pitchers. Here is a nice article that was linked by dagger in another thread

1. Jose Reyes (S) SS
2. Jose Bautista (R) RF
3. Edwin Encarnacion (R) DH
4. Mark DeRosa (R) 1B
5. Rajai Davis (R) LF
6. Colby Rasmus (L) CF
7. Maicer Izturis (S) 3B
8. Josh Thole (L) C
9. Munenori Kawasaki (L) 2B

So Derosa is well enough to play, and I'm reading that Lind isn't expected to go on the DL.

Happy Canada Day.
