Jays article, but I though this was funny:
Farrell was replaced by John Gibbons, who had previously managed the Blue Jays from 2004 to 2008, and who, in the grand tradition of Toronto mediocrity, had a lifetime record of exactly .500 (305-305).

Just facts really.
A bummer though, the Jays were supposed to be the team that got the city used to winning.

I can't wait until the Blue Jays finish the season strong and end up a few games over .500. Every Toronto fan will have high hopes for next season...lol

I think it's a shot at the Jays only. The Raptors and Leafs WISH they had a tradition of mediocrity...

It's a long article that is completely about the Jays and how they've treadmilled since winning the World Series 20 years ago - that quote is pretty out of context in that it wasn't used in the context of Toronto sports.

yup. totally out of context. absolutely nothing wrong with the quote when you read the whole article. OP needs to re-read it.

Did you watch the Leafs last season? They're getting better

Yah the Leafs can at least point to the team improving. They did make the playoffs and pushed Boston to the edge, despite that history-making collapse.

Game 7 was tough to watch in the last 3 mins. Had trouble sleeping that night lol, kept telling myself "dafuq just happened?"

Leafs took the cup finalists to within 9 minutes of being eliminated and added a lot of important cogs and are going to be even better next season.
Raptors? Who knows what Ujiri has planned for them, to tank or not to tank?
Jays? Yup consistently mediocre.
I think it's just a jab at the Jays.

I'm of the opinion it was an extreme moment of failure that will define the Leafs for decades, BUT I can understand how Leaf fans could be optimistic.
I'd feel better about the Leafs if they had got rid of James Reimer.

I always wondered about this. How can a person that hates the TORONTO Maple Leafs also be a fan of the TORONTO Raptors or even the bluejays for that matter?
I mean, don't you ever catch yourself rooting and hating the same city?

City? Contrary to what some think The make believes are not this city, they're just a sports team. And I can't stand hockey and especially the loafs. I also can't stand soccer & TFC, doesn't mean I can't cheer for the Raptors. They're all separate teams, sports.

ahh i c, Maybe it's just hard for me to wrap my head around that because I spent most of my life in Toronto so for me the city and the teams are synonymous.

There's nothing worse than someone from Toronto, whose a fan of one of the teams at least, who enjoys the misery of all the others. I loathe those people to the point I won't discuss any sports at all with them. They make for the absolute worst fans.

I've lived in Toronto most of my life, but the only teams I like at this point are the Raptors & Blue Jays. Can't stand the overhyping of the Leafs and the sport of hockey and the media representing them. I don't think that just because you live in a city you automatically have to like all the sports teams or root for them. In fact I root against the leafs whenever possible. lol
