Is Oliver Likely To Be Moved At Deadline?

Thinking back to how he came to return this season, it wouldn't surprise me if the organization moved him to a contender at the deadline

If he's not traded would it surprise anyone if he simply retired mid-season?

He should have simply retired 15 minutes ago.

He'll be moved to the retirement home with a performance like that tonight.

i remember listening to that douchebag's post game show one time and a fan suggested we trade oliver or send him to down or something to make room for kawasaki. and wilner was all pompous about it, arguing oliver is a proven bullpen commodity and that pitchers like cecil and loup and delabar haven't proven anything since it's been less than half a season that they've been pitching well.

If that's what he said, Wilner wasn't wrong about any of that. Sending down Oliver for Kawasaki at the time would have made no sense.

Trading him right now, though, would be fine. He's not under contract next year and serves no real purpose on a non-contending team in August/September.

Oliver can't be "sent down"

DFA'ing him, or trading him, just to make room for Kawasaki specifically, would be entirely **** stupid

And his point, which I'm sure you've entirely misinterpreted, was likely about the volatile nature of bullpens in general and it's an entirely fair point.... As outstanding as our pen has been this year, it could all go to flames in a moment, and that is the value that an entirely reliable person like Oliver brings.

That said, Oliver is likely done after this season, our playoff hopes for this season are done, so there is no reason to not move him by the end of the month... Any asset, no matter how minor, he can bring back would be welcomed at this point... Not doing so would be a lost opportunity on AA's part.
