On Thursday afternoon, Blue Jays manager John Gibbons went on MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM and told Jim Duquette that the club's experiment of trying out Brett Lawrie at second base is "over" and that the young Canadian will return to the hot corner for the remainer of this season.

Thank the lord. This was one of the dumbest experiment projects I've ever seen.

Pretty much everybody thought Lawrie at 2nd was stupid.

Thankfully AA and Co also finally realized this..

What was the rationale behind making a gold-glove caliber defender switch positions in the first place?

Make a desperate attempt to secure second base, and when that's failed, go for third base instead? Cannot say that I recommend it.

If this was 2016, and Mitch Nay was tearing it up at Buffalo, I'd understand the desire to maybe open up 3B to promote him, but looking at this monster called Izturis/DeRosa/Bonafacio, with org guys playing 3B in the high minors, i completely fail to see where the urgency was to even experiment with this switch

Figured this was coming when Gibbons moved him in-game to 3rd base when they got a lead on Tuesday. Still have no idea why they would start this experiment in the middle of the season.

Yeah, even if we thought that it might be easier to acquire a 3B than a 2B, it's rather much putting the cart before the horse, especially when you're messing with a kid that is still a very important asset.

I really hope a reporter delves deeper into the rationale behind this experiment.
