John Gibbons will be back to manage the Blue Jays next season, Alex Anthopoulos told me in 1on1 interview and later said same to a scrum.

Jamie Campbell ‏@SportsnetJamie 14m
Alex Anthopoulos says John Gibbons is coming back next year. @Sportsnet #SNBlueJays

Jamie Campbell ‏@SportsnetJamie 12m
AA: the rotation "has to be strongly re-evaluated".

Gregor Chisholm ‏@gregorMLB 13m
AA when asked if unequivocally that Gibbons was coming back: "Yes, there has never been any thought on that respect at all."

Gregor Chisholm ‏@gregorMLB 1m
Anthopoulos on why the support for Gibbons: "I actually think, the in-game managing, he has done a great job." #BlueJays

Gregor Chisholm ‏@gregorMLB 1m
AA: "I think it's so easy to pin results on one person. I think it's convenient ... I just don't think blame falls on one person." #BlueJays

Gregor Chisholm ‏@gregorMLB 1m
AA: "It's collectively. There's blame to share." #BlueJays

Anthopoulos: "Our focus is on how do we make this team better and it starts, obviously, with players." #BlueJays

I'm happy with it. Changing managers after this season would have only been done to appease media for the "narrative". Gibbons hasn't been the issue at all this season and all in all, is a quality manager. Even Joe Maddon couldn't do anything with a pitching staff that has under performed this badly. I'm glad AA stuck to his beliefs and kept Gibbons around, why make a change when it's not needed. Time to focus on addressing the issues that do need to be changed - SP, 2B, C, LF, DH, etc etc

What percentage of the fan base are calling for people's heads like this? You're certainly allowed to feel this way, this season frustrated the crap out of everybody, but does anyone have some perspective on how many fans would want to clean house this offseason from president down through manager?

I'm squarely not in that camp, but I'm curious if this is a lone gunman or one of the hordes, 'cause I've tuned out Jays news the last little while, it's all re-hashing what went wrong and the hand wringing just makes my brain hurt.

I was on the fence, but I'm glad AA made a fast decision. The focus has to be on improving the roster. Let the hounds loose.

Love that Anthopoulos was unwilling to scapegoat his manager to appease an ignorant segment of the fanbase. In a time like this, most GMs in his position would have gladly done so to take the heat off themselves and shift blame. Looks like the guy has the balls to stick to his convictions.

Whatever you think of the changes required to the roster, I am not of the opinion that cleaning house in management and starting all over gets you anywhere, especially in the short term.

And I didn't mean my last post to be combative towards your opinion. We disagree, but I certainly empathize with how you got to yours, I'm just curious how out of touch I am, are you or I the majority on what should happen going forward? I know where I stand in relation to many of the regulars here, but they don't really constitute the majority of the fanbase either. It was meant as an honest question.

not meaning to be combative either, just saying cleaning house will be the only way .....he's likely to stay with his guys - and Beeston is the head of the rotting fish, Gibbons no give a crap attitude will not turn a player next year

Agree. Now its time to address the pitching issues. I have a feeling its going to be a busy summer again for the Jays.
That's what she said.

More like AA saving Gibbons to be a scapegoat when the team starts out like crap again next year

Very smart, and shows a lot of integrity.

Not the big deal some of you are making this out to be. Alex didn't have much of a choice. He had to answer the question affirmatively or speculation among fans, the media and the clubhouse would be out of control.

Also, Gibbons was hired by Alex. So firing him would be an admission that AA screwed up when he hired Gibby in the first place.

That said, don't be surprised to see Gibby fired midway through 2014 if the Jays continue to flounder (which they likely will).

Now it will be interesting what happens if someone like Mike Scosia becomes available in the off-season.

Crediit to AA, that takes guts. As we saw with a certain big collar aficionado, the easiest route is to absolve yourself and blame the manager. Instead, he's owning it, and from his comments it sounds like he knows that he needs to get it right in 2014, or it'll be him walking out the door.

Because Beeston knows he screwed the organization into a 3 year hotspot, which is at this point an absolute failure or abyss...........but we must wait it out cause AA, and aw shucks Gibby are good guys.
