SP, C, and 2B options

Post#1 » by dballislife » Sun Sep 1, 2013 12:30 am

Who will we be looking at this offseason? FA pitching looks weak unless we really open up pockets for tanaka or garza...some solid options at C in mccann, aj and saltalamachia...would not mind throwing 30mill at cano lol, that would probably give use best offense in baseball...looks like AA might need to go trade route but we dont got many moveable pieces, AA in for tough winter it looks, unless we spend and it looks like we got no choices but to spend

cano is not leaving NY, yankees will pay up

Absolutely need to get rid of JPA, he is not only useless in offense, but terrible on defense. Questionable on calling games, too.

Yeah, it will be tough to improve without spending more money this winter.

We don't have the prospects we did a year ago and we should probably keep w/e good remaining ones we have left as this is probably only a 2-year winning window.

What's wrong with Richmond, Thole, and Goins?

QED.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

negative aspects will only be talked about after a player is acquired, you didn't get the memo?

He's better than Arencibia and has a career OBP of .350.

How about Brian Dozier for 2B? Starting to really heat up for the Twins.

.244/.311/.426 .727 OPS 3.7 WAR

Unproven and could be playing for a contract, but he'd be an interesting cheaper option.

I like Dozier, but is he a FA?

The other notable SS/2B options are Drew and Infante really.

Dozier isn't even arb-eligible until 2016 at the earliest (and thus will earn ~$500k in each of the next two years), so he'd cost quite a bit to acquire. Minny likes their pre-arb players.

Oh yeah, didn't know that.

Where do you go to find out contract details for baseball?

Yeah, Baseball Reference uses the numbers from Cot's Contracts; the latter is more detailed, so if you ever wanted to know how many season tickets/suites A-Rod is eligible to purchase with his contract, that's your source.

I read a couple of days ago that the Braves will not have the money to likely keep Mccann. To me getting a solid catcher should be a top priority right up there with getting a solid starter. Hopefully the Jays can get in the running and sign him, since he would be a solid upgrade over JPA. The Jays should also make a play for Matt Garza as well. At the end of the day, it all depends on how much money AA has to play with. From everything i have heard- Rogers will keep the payroll the same for next year, with no major increase or decrease. If that is the case, i do not see AA getting in a major bidding war and the holes need to be addressed by trade. With fewer prospects to deal, maybe the time has come for the Jays to entertain a Bautista trade. I think Bautista should be dangled this offseason frankly since there are no other real assets that would fetch as much.

I would do Cano for Bautista. We can always plug sierra at RF. Ichiro is aging and bautista would be an upgrade for the yanks, Cano helps on infield and keeps the dominican vibe alive on our team

Sierra has had a solid 61 plate appearance sample, but we're talking about a guy who has been a below-average hitter for right field throughout most of his minor league career (save a season in the PCL, which is the PCL). He's not someone we can really rely on for even below-average major league production next year.

I just looked at Bonifacio's stats with KC so far...

2nd base must be cursed in Toronto.
