The Blue Jays constantly get calls on Edwin Encarnacion and Jose Bautista and as always, they're willing to listen on anything. The shortage of quality hitters out there could lead to better offers than they've gotten in the past, but their stance remains the same: neither one will be moved unless it leads to an improvement of their big league team.

So lets all play GM: If we traded one of the two above mentioned what realistic return could we possibly get that would make us better?

There are no realistic returns that actually upgrade the roster immediately, unless we acquire an MLB-ready kiddie who turns into a star straight out of the gate. Nor should we be seeking a grab-bag of MLB players if we trade Encarnacion/Bautista; if someone blows us away with a deal, it has to be of a nature that sets us up for the future.

And with the recent influx of young hotshots (Trout, Harper, Machado, Myers) I think teams are going to be a little more hesitant on giving up on those types of players. The only hope is if there's a team that's absolutely desperate to get into the playoffs and will be willing to sacrifice that type of player. Unfortunately I think the only two teams who are extremely desperate to make the playoffs (and aren't in full on rebuild mode) are the Royals (who won't make that Myers/Shields type deal again) and the Jays.

The Rangers still make sense. They're desperate as all hell, have a plethora of talented young hotshots, the deep pockets to absorb another eight-figure deal, and have suddenly transformed from their historical tendency toward video game offenses paired with Little League pitching to a group with a hellishly talented rotation and underpowered lineup.

Yeah, It's hard to see trading either player for a return that will make us better in the short term.

I think the best option is just to spend more money we only have a 2 year window and spending say $20m-$30m more in the short term shouldn't be a big deal for Rogers ( i know it will be) with TV #'s up again.

AA comments today in conference call, via Shi Davidi. Pretty much what you would expect him to say... promised nothing, precluded nothing (although I get the feeling from these comments and those of Gibbons yesterday that Izturis might not be back, even if we have to eat some salary).

-No player can't be traded on this roster if the deal makes the team better
-Jays will look outside the organization for starting pitcher help
-Wouldn't be surprised if the bullpen surplus is used in a trade or trades
-Will do more to manage the health risks in trades, be less inclined to take on pitchers with recent injury history.
-Romero may pitch in winter league, has too much talent not to bounce back at some point.
-2B: will either find someone established to play the position or find someone to compete with Goins.
-Wants to bring back Kawasaki to organization in some way
-Didn't expect the kind of regression offensively that JPA experienced, got caught up in a situation that snowballed on him, expects him to bounce back offensively. Trading for/signing a C will depend on what's available
-He and Gibbons will meet next week to evaluate coaches
-"good chance" will pick up Adam Lind option, Mark DeRosa also in good position with his option. Janssen is no-brainer
