Re: Roy Halladay to retire, as a Blue Jay
The Blue Jays need to look at longer term contracts if they truly want to be players in FA.
I held out a little hope that Halladay could bounce back somewhat. Great to see him retire as a Jay though.

This is awesome. Wish we could've been more competitive with the Doc around. Was an absolute pleasure watching him go out and dominate.

Wow, that's cool. I always thought he might go away and win a bunch of championships and then go into the Hall with a Phillies cap. Blue Jay for life. Love it!

Sad and happy at the same time! Part of me is selfish and wants to see him give it another shot, then another part of me doesn't want see a broken down Doc anymore!
Glad he'll retire a Blue Jay!

So sad he'll be retiring. One of the all time greatest Jays.
Hopefully the Jays can give him a position with the team.

One of the best Jays ever. Sucks that he went so far downhill so quickly but i'm happy to see him retire a Jay.
@bruce_arthur "And finally, as a whore." RT @docfunk "Here is what LeBron looks like as a Knick, a Fireman, an Astronaut..."

Can somebody establish a kickstarter for Jays fans to buy a full page ad thanking Roy. Would be nice to return the favour to that classy gesture when he left.

It's not surprising though that the only thing that could limit Halladay's effectiveness would be his body. He had the intelligence and the feel for pitching that would allow him to remain as effective as he was until his body gave out.

Re: Roy Halladay to retire, as a Blue Jay
At least Halladay got a taste of the post-season, including a playoff no-hitter. Should help his chances of making the HOF despite retiring early. I think much like Pedro, he will (or should) get credited for his dominance rather than longevity, especially in the steroid era. He was a workhorse in an era where they no longer existed and dominating despite having to face the best teams in baseball a hell of a lot more than pitchers in other divisions/leagues.
I still don't like the way he left the organization (I blame the org, not him), but at least he gets to retire as a Jay, and if he ever does make the Hall, he'll go in as a Jay, which is great.

Re: Roy Halladay to retire, as a Blue Jay
First of all, fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu.ck.
Baseball is a game of very little efficacy in that it's really hard to do things even for the very best. We've all heard things like "even the best hitter gets out 2/3 times". It's really really hard to hit a baseball, throw a strike, catch a game, throw a runner out, etc. Doc is one of the few players I've seen who seemed like he could control things with visible mastery. Even the greatest hitters are left reacting to pitchers so they have comparatively little control on outcomes. You can often take great hitters out of their game, but you can't do that with a great pitcher and Doc was the best.
Best Blue Jay ever. Best pitcher of his era. One of the few appointment viewing pitchers in the game. It was a privilege to watch him play and, honestly, I haven't cared much about Jays baseball since we traded him. He better get in the HOF first ballot, god dammit.

My favorite memories as a Jays fan are when he was pitching for us. Great player and great person. Time flies

Favourite Jay ever and I don't see that changing any time soon. Awesome news. Really this is the best Jays related news in a while (JPK to Texas has an argument though).
