Since 2009, Rasmus' WAR's have been: 2.6, 4.0, 0.5, 1.0, 4.8, 0.7.

Whoever signs him long-term will likely get very inconsistent performance. When his BABIP is over .350, he'll probably be pretty good (as was the case in 2010 and 2013). Otherwise he is a low-OBP player who will strike out a metric ton and will likely decline defensively (at CF) as he gets older.

If you can get him to sign a one year deal (not the QO), then go for it. If not, it's definitely time to make a change. I just wish they realized this last off-season rather than now.

Pillar's hitting .355 on balls in play, and his inability to draw walks is something of a killer. The increased power makes it more likely that he can stick as a fourth outfielder, but I don't have much hope beyond that...he swings far, far too much, which one can get away with against the middling stuff of many minor leaguers, but which leads to a lot of weak contact and swinging strikes against major league pitching.

Just that hes only 27 and as recently as last year was a top 5 CF value in all MLB. His inconsistent play has frustrated me as well but hes better than what we have seen, the stats support that at least. He has been mediocre this year, but last year he definitely wasn't.

I wouldn't expect him to be breaking camp with the Jays, and I'd be uneasy about bringing him up even in mid-season unless he's utterly fantastic...he has so few reps above A ball, and I'm not fond of rushing guys through the upper minors only to have to send them back down if they prove unready.

Pillar has been absolutely terrible in each of his call ups. His career 26.5% whiff rate and 2.6% walk rate really does not make me feel any better that his fortunes will change with more consistent playing time.

Regardless how well he is playing at AAA, breaking camp with him as a starter would be a brutal decision.

No doubt, though if we're planning to compete next year, we need more of a bridge to Pompey than Gose/Pillar, particularly as that tandem runs the risk of forcing us into making decisions on Pompey's development based on our needs rather than his readiness. Mentioned it before, but I'd be interested to find out how much the Astros would want for Dex Fowler, who'll be expensive in arbitration, will be a free agent after 2015, and happens to be represented by an agent who they just burned in a big way. He also happens to be a decent comp for Pompey himself, for what it's worth, though perhaps poorer defensively.

As for paying Melky...eh. I'd offer him the QO, but I'd be wary of going long-term with a bat-only player whose defense is trending toward making him a DH.
