No doubt, though if we're planning to compete next year, we need more of a bridge to Pompey than Gose/Pillar, particularly as that tandem runs the risk of forcing us into making decisions on Pompey's development based on our needs rather than his readiness. Mentioned it before, but I'd be interested to find out how much the Astros would want for Dex Fowler, who'll be expensive in arbitration, will be a free agent after 2015, and happens to be represented by an agent who they just burned in a big way. He also happens to be a decent comp for Pompey himself, for what it's worth, though perhaps poorer defensively.
As for paying Melky...eh. I'd offer him the QO, but I'd be wary of going long-term with a bat-only player whose defense is trending toward making him a DH.
