Random Blue Jays Thoughts/Discussion

Post#1 » by whysoserious » Tue May 6, 2014 10:31 pm

Checked the first couple of pages and didn't see it. Maybe I missed the thread so if it exists, please merge.

Just thought it would be a good thread to consolidate and discuss all things Jays that goes beyond the series.

My first thing and reason for this is I didn't see a thread that fit this and I've seen it discussed it in different areas. Does this team/organization lack an identity for what type of style and players it wants to develop to become Major League players within that style.

I was thinking back to when John Farrell was first hired and one of the things he talked about was the need for all minor league levels to be aligned with the big club in developing the pitchers from the bottom up. Do we have that in place still? Did it develop under Farrell and continue? Does AA follow that path and would it apply to our position players and their development as well?

This organization has done a horrible job of developing MLB position players that join the Jays in a long long time. This is not just a development issue, it goes back to drafting, the ability to sign and then develop them. But from an organizational standpoint, do we even have a strong philosophy to develop guys the right way to be effective major leaguers?

I'm rambling a bit but just trying to understand the organization philosophy for developing pitchers and position players.
