According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, John Gibbons will be welcomed back for a third consecutive season as Blue Jays manager in 2015.

John Gibbons will be welcomed back for a third consecutive season as Blue Jays manager in 2015, people familiar with the situation say.

Team higher-ups are said to be planning for next season without even a thought they might consider changing managers, and it is said that unless something crazy and unforeseen happens, Gibbons will ba back with two more years in hand. Gibbons' contract is purposely set up whereby a year is added every Jan. 1 so that he's never a lame duck, so he'll be under contract through 2016.

Team management believes the culprits for a so-so last few months that basically ended Toronto's playoff hopes to be the bullpen woes and a spate if injuries to middle-of-the order bats Edwin Encarnacion, Adam Lind and Brett Lawrie, and more recently, Melky Cabrera. Toronto people don't talk about the team's finances, but other teams suggest it had no extra money to add players at the deadline, limiting it to minimal acquisitions such as Danny Valencia and Nolan Reimold.

It's really not surprising. As long as Beeston is here, so will AA and therefore Gibbons.

It'll be interesting to see how they spin the injuries this year as the reason why the Jays completely folded in August despite having everyone back but Lawrie. I guess Lawrie is a 6-7 WAR player.

I wouldn't expect anything less from this organization...

With that said I can't blame Gibby for this season when the GM and ownership refuse to get
quality depth players. No manager could get this team in the playoffs when he's trotting out
half a lineup of AAA players for half the season and not only were they AAA players they were god
awful AAA players or castoffs from the MLB recycle bin.

If you could find an experienced proven winning manager who could bring a winning culture with
him it's a no brainer to me but I've come to terms they won't come here unless the Jays had a guy
like Tim Leiweke calling the shots.

Gibbons should have been fired for September alone, but if the team wants to compete in 2015, then the manager is the least of their problems.

Gibbons is still better than pretty much any other option. This indicates that September was entirely management-backed (including the Colby banishment). Not sure if that gives me more faith in the direction of the organization or less. Probably less.

They are practising how to try not to try. Very successful. Winning is for losers.

I would have been shocked if Gibbons wasn't retained. He's invaluable for the team at this given time.

2015-Jays start off badly and Gibbons is canned mid season so the team has the excuse that 2015 is a write off so we'll gear up for 2016 with a new and improved manager who more importantly will be a cheap hire.

2016-Jays again are a middle of the road team again and treading water so attendance and TV #'s really start to suffer out of boredom so AA is canned mid season. Now the team says 2016 is a write off because they need to get a new and improved General Manager who more importantly will be a cheap hire.

2017- new (and cheap) general manager cleans house, perhaps a different (and cheap) field manager and says it takes time and we will contend in 2 years.

So basically the team is covered until 2019 before they really have to be held accountable and by then they will just hire some another new (and cheap) manager and general manager. Rinse and repeat. It's been working for the last 20 years so it should work pretty well for the next half decade or so.

The Leafs are using the same formula by retaining Dave Nonis and Randy Carlyle. It's just wonderul being a Toronto sports fan.

Baltimore had injuries as well. Look what they did this season.

There's a difference between trying to win and losing because you aren't good enough (injuries with poor depth, awful bullpen, etc.), and not rolling out your best lineups for some insane reason. Even with the **** August the Jays could have made the playoffs this year. Playing AAAA guys for no reason is mind boggling.

My AA year end quote pridictions - "The AL East is a tough division, arguably the toughest division in baseball, we can't all be the Yankees (freudian slip) I mean The O's" .... then AA shrugs his shoulders and says "that's baseball, we didn't have the season we were anticipating with the return of Morrow and Hutchison from their respective 2013 injuries (and Dickey back as our ACE) but it would be short sighted from an organizational stand point to think injuries didn't factor into our record... since no one ask I wanted to remind our loyal fans we thought we had a deal in place with Santana, which is a clear indication we have the support of the owners to do what it takes...money is not an issue...60% of our top prospects got called up this year, which shows our great organizational depth moving into 2015."

AA season ending presser is about as easy to forecast as BC.
