Hate to see Barreto gone, but that's quite the win-now move. Three years of team control remaining on Donaldson, as well.

Sucks to see Barretto go. Tons of upside to this deal for the A's. Obviously Donaldson is a stud, and is pretty much everything you want from Brett, if he stayed healthy and played to his potential. I can live with Graveman going, although I'd prefer Nolin. Losing Barretto sucks though. Here's hoping that it's an error and it's actually Deiferson Barretto.
Edit: I guess we're giving them Nolin too. Looks like his all upside versus proven commodity.

What's the hype about Barretto? I don't remember anyone talking about him before. I wonder if lawrie was another bad character in the clubhouse?

Barreto's an 18 year old who just put up a .311/.384/.481 line in short-season A ball. Big time prospect if he can stick at a premium defensive position, likely center field. We always trade the ones I love the most.
Also Nolin, apparently. Don't mind that. If it's Lawrie, Barreto, Nolin and Graveman it's hard to be upset...Donaldson is a tad good.

Why would Beane do this deal? Am I missing something?

Seriously? He's been talked about ever since we signed him as a 16 year old. His upside is huge.
Still, I guess if you're committed to now (which we are), adding a guy averaging ~7 WAR the past two seasons is worth it.

I love this trade but now I'm starting to think Lawrie might be good if Billy Beane is trading for him
