Both these guys are rumored to be seeking 4 year deals at big money. The Jays are rumored to be in on Miller but recently im reading that Robertson is in play. Apprently Bleacher Report said Robertson has a 3 year, 39 million deal on the table from an unknown team.

Im pretty sure both these guys will get a similar contract eventually. Who ever signs first will set the market for the other. 3 years at about 13 million seems ok for an elite closer in this era.


Miller is younger and has a slightly bigger potential. While Robertson is proven and almost same potential as Miller. Both are dominant and would fill a hole with the Jays..... Then again last time the Jays gave out a huge deal to a reliever it backfired (BJ Ryan). So there is risk. So i personally would go with the proven Robertson.

Who would you rather have?

Miller but I'd much rather neither. You could fix the whole bullpen with 13M.

Is there an option that two teams in our division spend even more than that on those guys and both underwhelm, and neither of those teams are us? I'm with MikeM ^^

13 mill for 40 innings of work? That doesn't strike me as an optimum allocation of scarce resources.

Is that really what the market is going to be for Miller? Opened the thread to ask/find out.

I agree that thats too much money. But i think AA has to bring in a guy who fits the role as opposed to heading into season with a question mark.

How about taking a flyer on K-Rod, Gregerson or even Bring back Jannsen... All these guys are cheap alternatives.

Let the best reliver close. Im just not comfortable going into season with out a leading candidate.

for that kind of money, you can bring in two bullpen arms. gregerson and hochevar are my winter wishes. add motte since the jays love to buy low. those three will revamp the 'pen and give the jays a nasty look into the late innings with cecil already around.

Dwayne ward was on the Fan 590 like two days ago, and talked about, you really shouldn't go with an unknown, or "rookie" as closer, especially in a year when you going for it, if you can afford to have the player learn on the job then sure go for that route.

He is of the opinion, you need to spend atleast on the back end of the relief (Setup up, closer) to spend and get someone that is fairly proven.

The jays could probably use sanchez as closer and pick up a number of other arms for the bullpen. Lots have already been mentioned: hochevar, Motte, KRod, gregerson, etc. Not sure who is available via trade, but that could be an option. Hoping for a bounce-back year for delabar as well.

Also, Jason Grilli.

u can have a pen for 13m ya, even 10 if u want...they just might not be great, it can be solid or adequate if thats all u want

looking at millers production in recent years...9m over 4 doesnt sound horrible to me on the open market

Please god no. I can't go through another year of Brandon Morrow DL updates.

I think he could be, though I also second Santoki's "please god no" reaction to that proposition.

I'd love to see him make an impact out of the pen, but I wouldn't want to count on it.
