My Update: Donaldson Trade.... (Relief)

When the Jays shocked the world by trading for MVP candidate 3B Josh Donaldson, I was ecstatic.... and then I heard of the pieces going the other way. By now, I was truly flabbergasted. I was scared. I looked at the deal from the prospective of Billy Beane and the Oakland Athletics. I thought they were robing the Jays clean.
Brett Lawrie was younger than Donaldson. Just as good on defense at 3B. He just couldn't stay healthy or hit consistently. Yet considering his age, the fact that he was a top prospect rushed to the big leagues and that he would be playing on real grass. I though Lawrie had potential to be just as good as Josh Donaldson. The rest of the deal was just icing on the cake...... probably just how Billy Beane was thinking.
Franklin Barreto was on the verge of catching everyone's attention as a top prospect. Sean Nolan young was the near MLB ready prospect everyone wanted from Toronto.... and Kendal Graveman stole a rotation spot on a deep pitching A's team. This was looking like the Mark Teixeira trade the Rangers pulled off years back.
However,
Looking at the deal now, this might be a huge coupe for Toronto. Donaldson is a superstar at a modest price tag. He also has 1 more year of control than Lawrie, even though he is much older. Lawrie on the other hand, while providing solid defense at 3B and staying healthy, has been a huge let down for Oakland.
As for the rest of the deal. Barreto is struggling mightily so far with the bat and his defense was always questionable. Graveman won the rotation spot, but fell flat on his face in the regular season. He was sent down. Nolan has yet to pitch due to injury. Though, he is likely a bullpen option with all the depth in Oakland.
As of today...... Im liking this for Alex Anthopoulos.
