Btw in 2012, Rafael Soriano was playing for the NYY and finished with a 42 save season. That season his catcher was Russell Martin.

Would be nice to get him just to free up Cecil to operate in high leverage situations. Soriano is kind of the guy you want in the closer's role too. Good but not the best reliever on the team.

After he signs with another team we'll find out how the Jays were no where near on the final price.

I am waiting to hear how the team passed a hat around to the players looking for money a la Ervin Santana.

Let's be honest, he's going to whomever pays the most. That won't be us, if he actually proves to still be a major league reliever.

If he goes to another team, he'll perform very well. If he somehow signs with the Jays, he's gonna suck. That's just the way it works.

Don't forget about Castro, Hoffman, and this year's 17th round draft pick straight out of elementary school all getting called up after the all-star game.

This little streak has put the ball in AA and Rogers court. People keep talking about the AL East being up for grabs, but the entire American League is weak this year. Not only does that have an impact on the win total needed to make the playoffs, but also makes getting the necessary wins a little easier as they don't have to worry about playing any power house teams.

A Soriano signing would still leave us with a below-average bullpen, as he's essentially a good/not great player but it's a step in the right direction. I hated when people were saying this is the off-season, but the move that needs to be made (depending on the asking price, of course) is Papelbon. I doubt Rogers pays for both, if any, though.

Soriano might be a prorated contract this year, making his outlay for the year to be more palatable

I haven't looked recently, but not long ago the statistics said the Jays actually had a middle-of-the-road bullpen. Yes, it shocked me too. We can attribute that to Osuna being God, Cecil being Cecil, and Hendriks being a pleasant surprise.

The signing of a proven closer like Soriano - assuming he still has it - could really solidify our middle-of-the-pack status by allowing us to use Cecil in higher-leverage situations. Loup has been forced into that role this season and the results haven't been what one would hope.

I sure hope not. He's not exactly blowing the competition away in Dunedin as yet. I suspect that's more due to him regaining his strength and form, and less about his underlying abilities. He really shouldn't be anything more than a September call-up this year, if that.
