Jose Reyes Appreciation Thread

Post#1 » by Rhettmatic » Tue Jul 28, 2015 10:59 pm

We got 305 games out of him. If nothing else, he was jovial. And he did hit.

I have a soft spot for Jose Reyes because I know that if I were 10 years old, there's a very good chance he'd be my favourite player on the team and I'd be absolutely crestfallen right now.

What was your favourite Jose Reyes as a Blue Jay moment?

Ugh, what an underwhelming Blue Jays stint he had. My favorite Reyes moment was when he got hit in the mug with the baseball, that was apt.

Jose Reyes Appreciation Thread

I'm not sure I have a favourite. The biggest one burned into my mind is seeing him break his ankle in game #10 of his first year. I could almost hear glass shatter around me as I came to the realization that the season was likely over/cursed.

I'll remember him unfortunately as a microcosm of the Jays the last three years. Moments of brilliance but overall frustratingly average when you expected something great.

Jose, when you weren't letting balls through your legs, getting/being injured, hacking in Pillar-esque fashion, and spending all your time coming up with silly dugout celebrations, you managed to earn a very small percentage of your salary.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

This.

Good riddance! Wasn't a fan of his to begin with. He won't be missed. We got the better player in the trade.

Appreciated Reyes giving his all, too bad it didn't work out for the better. Will miss his energy and team spirit.

Always liked the energy he provided. Seems likes a really good guy overall, so I wish him nothing but the best.

Cant think of any positive standout moment for Reyes right now, but im sure theres some.

When Reyes was acquired, I was expecting the final two years of the deal to be the albatross, and the first three to lead to something good (similar expectations for Tulo, honestly). He had a 2.2 WAR in 2013 despite missing a large chunk of the year, and then 3.4 the following season. Fangraphs had his value at $42M in 2013-14 (actual salary was $26M over those two years). So the best I can say about him is that he was good in his first two seasons with the Jays, and some better roster construction/management in 2014 could have lead to a playoff appearance with him at short. He's declined this season and likely isn't getting better so they cut bait at the right time.

I wish the Jays acquired Reyes in his prime. He used to be an amazing player. Unfortunately, we got him in the twilight and back-end of his free agent contract.

my favourite player in the league when he was on the mets, always questioned the gods "why can't we have a player like him?", so naturally i had to buy a reyes jersey when he was first dealt here. always thought the hate for him was **** weird. like it extended beyond the field as if he was some giant a-hole. the dude's personality is as real as it gets and i admire that. obviously won't miss the porous defense but i wish him nothing but the best and hope he can get dealt somewhere relevant (would be great to see him back with the mets) if not this week then in the offseason.

Bautista outplays his contract by more than $70 million over the next four seasons (2013-2016).

**** all you clowns. Jose was good people.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

You fans dont pay salary get off your high horse.

What is up with fans issue with latin players being eccentric?

Whenever jose bautista struggles for a short period people have an issue with his flare.

Whats gonna happen when tulo gets to celebrating like he did in colo? And crying about every issue like he has his whole career. Lol

Id say my fav memory would be the team comradery he created this year with that cooking nonsense. He was well liked in that locker room and never did anything to the fans to trigger this hate
