Does AA deserve an extension?

Topic might be a bit premature, because the trade deadline has not come and gone yet and there may be more moves ahead. However, soely based on the moves AA has made do you guys think he warrants an extention.
Leaving out a new president coming into the fold, and only looking on the moves hes made do you think Rogers would/should extend him.
Tulo for Reyes ( Hoffman, Castro and Tinoco)
Josh Donaldson for Lawrie, Baretto, Gravemen and Nolin
Marlins deal
Colby Rasmus for scraps ( seen as a big trade at the time)
Mike Avilas and Yon Gomes for Esmil Rogers
Dickey for D'Arnaud, Sundergaard and Becerra
Signing of Martin
Marcum for Lawrie
These are just a few examples of deals he's made, there are other ones like moving Wells allabatross, getting Yunel from the Braves, Happ for Saunders etc
Do you think he gets extended this winter?

I don't think it matters what we think. We all thought last season was his last chance and here we are again with no sign from ownership that AA is on his way out.
Hire the new president and let him make the call. I'm fine with AA but it's hard to form a concrete opinion when we have no idea of the limitations or restrictions he may be under. I'm not a Gibby fan or hater but I would fire him after this season and see if a managerial change would spark the team in 2016. Basically AA would get a chance to make another hire on the heels of a couple of big deals. This time hopefully they do a more extensive search.

What you didn't mention was his recent-year drafting, which got us Hoffman (for one) in the first place. He learns from his mistakes. I don't know if JP was capable of that. The 2014 draft and signings was/were spectacular. I trust AA not to draft another Deck McGuire, or (as scouting director) not to pass on Tulo in favour of Romero.
For drafting and ability to game the system within cost constraints, I'd stay with AA. And that Donaldson trade - holy hell.

The 2014 draft has some positives, but if you draft 9th and 11th you had better have something to show for it. Not signing Bickford a year earlier helped make 2014 better. But if Max Pentecost busts as a C - he might still have some reduced value at another position - the draft won't look quite as good. Also, we had two picks in the Stroman draft, and the higher of the two - DJ Davis is progressing, albeit very slowly. If there is a spectacular part of these recent drafts, IMO, it's the ability to work the system to sign some guys who were considered hard-to-sign and fell in their respective drafts. Getting Anthony Alford out of football and into baseball full time is a bigger achievement than drafting Stroman with the 21st overall pick, because if Alford had had his druthers, he'd still be a quarterback. That seemed to be his preference, but with time, he was converted to a cornerback by Ole Miss, and Alford got married, and his spouse also help drive him to the safer sport of baseball. Still, AA get major props for Alford, both in constructing a scenario where he could sign and take his time deciding on which sport to pursue fill time, then helping persuade Alford to focus on baseball full time. Now, Alford is our fourth best prospect on MLB Pipeline's mid-season list. He's either part of our outfield of the future, or a very good trade chip. I also like the Tellez signing - that could play out well, too.

He's a great GM. The only real blemish on his resume is the Dickey trade.

A great GM who has never made the playoffs?
Please, tone it down.

AA's pursuit of Price reminds me that we recently had the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo which finished off Napoleon. Napoleon won a lot of big, brilliant victories, but things started to turn sour in 1813 with the Battle of Leipzig. He made one more big splash escaping to Elba, but then bet farm on Waterloo. I think Price is going to be AA's Waterloo.

Even if that were true, that means he had a lot of low hanging fruit for improvement. The Jays haven't made the playoffs under AA.

In his last five seasons, JP averaged 82 wins.
In AA's five full seasons he averaged 79 wins. Best season was his first season - 85 wins.

if he get's fired, its premature and we didn't get to see the finished product. earlier in his tenure, most of his time he focused on asset building and building through prospects. give the man some time

AA played a part in designing that wreck.

NO
With him it's always two steps forward and one step back. He makes the Miami deal which was a good one despite it not panning out then makes the Dickey deal which is god awful at the time and will be ranked right up there with the worst of all time when all is said and done.
He trades Napoli for fransisco. Colby Rasmus for a bunch of relievers (good deal).
He trades Reyes for Tulo which is a good deal. Then does the price deal which is awful.
Way too much uneven performance in his moves which is a big reason why this team sits at .500 year after year. After the Price deal I want him gone that trade was a blatant sell off all your assets in a misguided attempt to make the playoffs and save your job type of deal.

Time? If Price walks this winter, 2016 will be crap. All the prospects that could have been used to bring in other pitchers will have disappeared, along with Buehrle (free agent), Estrada (free agent) and Dickey (less than 50/50 to pick up his option). Then in 2017, Jose and EE walk, Martin turns 34, John and Tulo will be 32, earning end of prime salaries.

Ifs and buts. Let's flip the ifs then. What if Price & Buehrle re-signs? Stroman comes back strong? And if Jays make the playoffs this year next year and the following? Time my friend.

I think this trade virtually assures that Dickey's option will be picked up.

After the Tulo and Price deal. Yes. Long term. He deserves it.
