What needs to happen this year for the deals to be worth it?

Simple question: what level of achievement after renting Price makes it worthwhile for you. Curious to see where people stand.

Making the ALDS would give Stroman a better shot at some meaningful innings. As would winning a round.

Absolutely, though what I'm going for here is basically at what point people will still feel content with the moves if we lose at that juncture.

Only if we win the World Series or re-sign him.

Re-sign him and/or make the playoffs.

We haven't made the playoffs in over 20 years.... I'd be happy with even just making a wild card spot

Personally I just want to see the Jays in the playoffs for the first time in my life

It's not worth it. The outcome shouldn't change people's opinions. If it was a good shot to take, it was a good shot, whether it pays off or not. I **** hate this, fire him if we don't make the playoffs. If you don't like the moves, you should want him fired regardless of whether they make it or not.
I think it's not an affordable deal for a franchise like Toronto, but for all that it's spilt milk. I'll complain about it in 2018 when Hoffman and Norris are starting in the All-Star game and Tulo is a bottom 5 leftfielder on the 60-day. For now, it's gonna be a fun summer.
BTW, love or hate his moves, AA is more fun than anyone other than maybe Friedman. I wouldn't fire him if they Jays lost the next 60 games in a row.

I agree in the aggregate; put your money on a 90% chance of winning and it was still a good decision even if you lose.
But we're dealing with much lower percentages here. I think it's a terrible move, obviously, but if we were to go deep in the playoffs for the first time in eons, the reward would offset the risk he's taking.
I guess a better way of phrasing it: at what level of achievement will people look back fondly on these moves when we remember the 2015 season in a year or five or a decade.

Getting past the WC game and making the real playoffs for the first time in 22 years would probably be enough to make it palatable. Anything less and it's going to look awful for AA.

But that's my point. If he hits the runner/runner for a WS ring, it's still a bad bet. Obviously not too many GMs get fired for winning the WS on a bad gamble, but from where we sit today, the end result should be irrelevant to the evaluation.
It's a bad bet, but he pushed, we're all-in, there's a couple cards left to see if we're busted, that part's gonna be exciting.

Yeah, I'm not disagreeing with you at all on the gamble. I'm merely trying to ascertain what people want out of this team, and what sort of result from this season would be such that whatever happens from this point forward, they'll remember 2015 fondly. Where "we shouldn't have done that" becomes "we shouldn't have done that, but it worked out".

I think if we go out in a reasonable fashion. Maybe a tough ALDS series is enough. I think it helps build momentum and keep our payroll high. The Royals were **** up until last year and they obviously made an incredible run (longer than what we can expect from the Jays) but did they gain some momentum from last year? I don't know if that's a real thing but it sure feels like it.

Either resigning Price and/or making the ALCS

Winning a playoff round would satisfy me. Anything less and this will seem like an absolute debacle.
That changes if they re-sign him, although that hardly seems worth mentioning.

Even a one game Wild Card game will be the most exiting baseball game involving the Jays in over 20 years.
Having said that, I'd be disappointed if we didn't win that and at least go to 5 games after that. Anything more than that and it's easily worth it if only because we waited more than two decades, talking drafts and prospects and the occasional star, and nothing has come close to that. For all we know we could go another 20 years after this and that would be the high mark.

We need to somehow win 2 world series this year for this to be worth it.
Or what Randle said earlier.

You should add - not be the last professional sports team to make the playoffs. That would be great.

Anything less than winning the World Series would be a failure for me, unless we can re-sign Price. If we can re-sign him (hypothetically speaking since there is no chance in reality) then I don't care what happens.

Watching Price bean A Rod right in the face in the ALCS. That makes it for me.
