It may have already been time to replace Smoak with Colabello, but now that Tulo is out, Cola's bat becomes that much more important in the 5th spot. I think it's time we give him a shot as the everyday first baseman. Do you agree?

I think this should be the regular lineup. Thoughts?

well I guess that is one good thing out of this. Cola has been hitting 330 consistently all year, yet he sits for a guy hitting 220.

Tulo gone for season for sure. Had that injury as a teenager and was done for 2 months

Yep you have to bring more offense in.

And honestly if the defense doesn't falter, we won't see a dip in quality.

He cannot sustain what he is doing. I think he's batting around .500 so far this series against the Yankees.

I'm not sure you having that injury as a teenager is necessarily the same as a professional athlete with the best available medical treatment, money being no object. I've read (allegedly) qualified people saying two to six weeks. I'd wait for the official report. We might also want to bear in mind the story of a young pitcher who wasn't supposed to be available till next year. very case is different. No need to panic.

Why do we need to worry about bringing in more offense? What was Tulo doing offensively that contributed to us having the 12th highest WRC+ since WWII? He's been scuffing it since he got here.

This lineup doesn't suddenly become weak do to one player being gone. Tulo has been one of our weaker bats over the past few weeks anyways.

That said, I've always been a fan of starting Cola and using Smoak as a switch hitting PH and defensive replacement later.

I think Tulo's defense is being underrated a bit by some. We won't miss his bat based on how he's looked since he got here, but he's covered up a lot of the defensive holes we used to have when we were trotting out Reyes. Granted, either Pennington or Kawasaki are better on defense than Reyes anyway. But Tulo is also better than those two. Goins at SS might be OK but Tulo is a better decision maker. He really is a steadying influence for the Jays' defense.

It will be very difficult to win a world series without him in the playoffs. Not to say we can't, but make no mistake, every time a ball dribbles out of our SS for a hit that Tulo would have gotten, we are going to punch a wall.

But let's face it, we knew some way or another Kevin Pillar would be either directly or indirectly involved with something that makes our WS chances that much tougher. If it wasn't this it would have been something else. Hell, there may still be more to come.

Goins is probably just as good a shortstop as Tulo. It will be his bat that we'll miss.

The head of sports medicine at Tufts tweeted last night that if it's a small non-displaced fracture, Tulo could play immediately in theory - it wouldn't make a difference to the healing of the bone - but that the pain would inhibit his hitting and throwing, so he'd likely need a few weeks off to recover from that.

Also I think it's safe to assume Tulo has access to better doctors, medicine, rehab, etc. The trainers, doctors, everyone involved will have to help speed up the recovery process as much as possible.
