Seriously though, doesn't bode well for Tulo's return.

Not necessarily a serious injury. Barney isn't eligible for the post-season. It's just another infielder to have on the roster during the next week(s) while Tulo is out.

Exactly. Even if Tulo is only gone for a couple of weeks, Kawasaki is the only player available to the Jays should Goins or Pennington get injured. If Kawasaki was forced into every day play, the Jays had NOBODY qualified left to backup middle-infield at any level.

We now have Goins, Switch-Hitting Goins, and Right-Handed Goins. They will soon merge into a single Voltryan which will cover the whole of the middle infield while hitting from both sides of the plate simultaneously. To the tune of .240/.290/.340 on thereabouts.

29th highest career DWAR out of all active players (behind only Tulo and Martin on the Jays)

I'd imagine that Alex will learn to upgrade the AAA middle infield entering next season with a few veterans better than Kawasaki.

Picking up guys who are elite at one skill at this point of the season is smart IMO.

It's pretty obvious Friedman and AA prefer not being in the same division.
