A few months ago, after I was optioned to AAA, I found out I had a growth on my thyroid. Flying back & forth from Toronto to Buffalo after pitching to have more and more tests done it was finally concluded that the growth is considered malignant.. Meaning it contained the C word.. cancer.

Good news though:

Al Avila, who was promoted to replace Dave Dombrowski as Detroit's general manager shortly after the trade deadline, says the Tigers knew about Norris' condition when they acquired him and expect him to recover in full.

wow. really puts things in perspective when talking about his struggles here.

I really liked Norris. I think he's got better stuff than Sanchez. It was sad to see him go. With that said, I wish him a speedy recovery and hope he can come back and have a great career.

I'm surprised he didn't elect to get it treated immediately....

That really sucks. Apparently it's one of the most treatable cancers, but no one so young should have to deal with that.

I'm curious though, did Detroit know about this before they made the trade? I'm sure they had all his health information and did their physicals and they still went ahead with the trade?

edit: never mind just read the full article. that's great to hear that it's very treatable and to see how much faith Detroit has in his recovery.

Imagine focusing on baseball activities when you have cancer. That is crazy scary and really furthers the discourse that these guys aren't robots, they're humans. It can get really lost in between the lines of the everyday expectation of near perfection.
