I would be happy with this rotation:
Price
Stroman
Estrada
Sanchez
Dickey

But I want a WAY deeper bullpen. Who is available?

1. Carrassco
2. Stroman
3. Shark
4. Hutch
5. Dickey

6. Osuna/Hendriks/Sanchez (assuming Sanchez or Osuna doesn't get traded although Osuna is probably included in a Carrasco deal)

I'd be ok with Osuna, Cecil, Loup, Hendricks if they can get two more dominant arms in there.

Osuna can't be a starter next season imo. He doesn't have the stamina yet to pitch 150+ innings. Plus his repertoire isn't good enough to be a starter either. You'll have to waste a season to build him up in the minors first if you want him to be a starting pitcher. Don't forget that he's already had TJ surgery once, so you have to be careful with how hard you push him. I'd keep Osuna as a closer next year if we're contending. If we decide to rebuild down the line, then sure, send him down for a season and groom him to be a starter.

I was looking at the list of free agent pitchers and most guys that look attainable are about mid range. I'm seeing a lot of guys who were good in their prime but in their mid to late 30s now - I hope we don't blow the bank on those guys.

Dickey had a ERA under 3 for the 2nd half of the season. Why do so many people think Dickey easy to replace and find comparable/better production?

If Dickey is inconsistent then so is every other starting pitcher in MLB. They all get hot and cold streaks.

As it is, his 3 full seasons with the Jays have almost been carbon copies of each other statistically. So on a 162 game basis he's been one of the most consistent pitchers actually.

Legit ace ( Price, Greinke or Iwakuma) and Stroshow, how the rest of the rotation plans out, i really don't care.

Bullpen can use a little work as well, especially if Sanchez is starting.

I think it would a dumb move to let Dickey walk. He is consistent a solid workhorse through the season. Sure he has his cold spells but most pitchers do and now that he is not counted on as a top of the rotation type guy that should be tolerable. Dickey is a steal at the price he earns.

I would like the Jays to retain Price. Just like Dickey, lets not judge him on his playoff stats. He is a legit Ace.... Though Estrada is more realistic and should be locked up as soon as possible.

Also, I would like the Jays to maximize Osuna's value, as a starter. Ease him into the rotation as a #5 guy. He has better stuff than Sanchez. Sign a couple of top end relievers to take over the closer role. Osuna can be the next Adam Wienright for the Jays. Weinright won a Cy-young with the Cardinals after debuting as a closer. Thsi experince will only make Osuna stronger.

I would love to see us make a play for Greinke. He'll be cheaper than Price by virtue of being two years older and a righty. I could see him agreeing to something like $125 million over 5 years.

I've cooled off of Price. His playoff performance was vomit-inducing and handicapping ourselves with a 7 year $200+ million contract isn't very smart.

We definitely need at least one elite pitcher to go along with Stroman.

If we can't sign Price, go after Greinke and sign Estrada. (Need to bring Navarro if the latter happens.)

Most players had us on their no-trade list. I imagine it had more to do with us sucking than anything else. We had one of the worst farm systems and one of the cheapest owners in baseball for over a decade. I wouldn't be surprised if Canadian players had us on their no-trade lists as well. The weather isn't a factor during the baseball season since it's played in the summer.

I don't see the problem with having Dickey for another season. He is good for 200 innings, at worst a 500 pitcher, and can pitch on very short rest if the Jays need to switch the rotations around. This isn't about him starting in the post season, I do not want to see him starting the post season for the Jays ever again, it is about eating innings to get the post season.

The problem with Dickey is the lack of consistency. If the knuckler isn't dancing, you're guaranteed a loss that night. If he was consistently mediocre, I wouldn't mind him. But I can't stand the Jekyll and Hyde act where he's unhittable one game then the worst pitcher in baseball the next.

Our starting payroll should be between 100-110 M with Buehlre/Romero, etc off the books. We can go up to 160 I'm sure with the massive amount of revenue Rogers made.

Dickey's absolutely fine as 4th/5th starter in the regular season. There are not many better options in the entire majors for that role than Dickey.

Dickey is good value for what he brings during the regular season. He absolutely cannot be in the playoff rotation though. With no alternate pitches (compared to Price going to his curveball instead of change up) he is way too much of a risk. I don't think you find someone who will eat up 200 innings and be a good presence in the clubhouse for how much Dickey's option is.

I think they have to make a play for a legit Ace, whether that is Price, Grenike, or someone else. I fully expect Stroman to be a top of the rotation guy but a legit Ace makes a huge difference to a rotation (keeping in mind that perhaps Stroman will ultimately prove to be an Ace). It will be very interesting to see how the rotation shapes up given that we currently have Stroman and a bunch of question marks.
