Hadn't seen this posted anywhere -- according to Tom Verducci, Price was tipping his pitches and the Royals knew breaking balls were coming. Looks like they knew a LOT about the Blue Jays tendencies. Good scouting on their part, and an interesting read:

I always noticed when Price took that deep breath and shrugged his shoulders..I didn't know that was actually tipping his pitches lol.

Not only did they pick up on Price's tip, they knew they could end our season sending Cain as soon as the ball went on the far side of Bautista.

Somehow makes it better and yet worse to reconcile. Great work by their coaches.

So when the Jays get hits off Cueto, it's because we're cheating and stealing signs.
When the Royals get hits off Price, it's because they are fantastic scouts and coaches.

I found it funny that the whole series they made a big deal about Toronto "stealing signs"(like it's not allowed or something) Yet when they were making those claims, the Jays were hitting nothing and the Royals were on top of everything.

He who smelt it dealt it, in my opinion.

Either way, we lost because our bp is non existent and Price just can't get it done in the post season. We knew both of these things going in and it was our downfall.

Price actually pitched very well against the Royals. But even if he hadn't, it sure sounds like there is a reason for the Royals hitting him hard, as opposed to him 'not being able to get it done' or whatever.

Price's performance in Game 6 should have been good enough to win. It's easy to brag when you win but it's not like he got rocked. If they had lost the series the narrative would be different.

There is something more behind KC's insane contact rates than just good scouting and talented hitters. Keep a very close eye on how often they get fooled in Game 1. Hint: It won't be often.

Estrada fooled the **** out of them.

And Reynolds kept on talking about Leiper standing too far up and outside the box, yet KC's 1B coach was doing the exact same thing all game...

I would just like to point out that the change up is not a breaking ball.

All teams do this kind of advanced scouting. We're only hearing about this because the Royals won. Cain would have scored on the next play anyway, when Morales ripped one up the middle. As for figuring out Price: 16 Ks, 1 BB, and 11 hits allowed over his two starts. Yeah, they really had his number...

He MIGHT have scored. You can't just say Cain would've scored anyway. If he was on third, both Morales and Osuna's approaches would've probably changed.

It's like saying the game would've been to extras if the homer got called back. It would've been a different ballgame altogether.

Not sure we'd talking about their scouting/coaching if we weren't 0-12 with RISP.

I 100% agree. What I find with fans here is they discuss things outside the Blue Jays' control in terms of how we could have won instead of things they can control, like timely hitting. This series was there for the Jays, and they didn't take it. If they had taken even one out of those 12 opportunities, we had this. Now it's also true that the umps hampered some of those opportunities, but sill, winners don't think about opportunities lost by the umpires; they think about what they could have done better themselves, things they will do better the next time. On the plus side, I think most of the players and coaches think that way. Next year, we'll see.

Yes, Price eventually adapted because they were hitting his changeup, but at the very least, they forced him to throw other pitches. That's great scouting.

Sportsnet did a great show about Mel Didier sometime in 2013 or 2014 and how he saw that Eckersley loved to throw a 3-2 back door slider to lefties, and how that lead to the famous Kirk Gibson pinch hit HR.
