AA End of Year Presser

Post#1 » by MoMoneyMoProbs » Mon Oct 26, 2015 2:59 pm

Hey guys,

Jays had their annual end of year presser today with AA. I wasn't able to catch the presser due to work. Does anyone have a recap of what was said?

AA doing this despite everyone being well aware that he doesn't have an actual contract with the team next week was pretty weird. I'm still not convinced he's sticking with this organization with Rogers having brought in a baseball guy over him.

AA would be smart to step away - even if the Jays head back to the playoffs, it will be somewhat expected and not nearly as magical, and if there is a regression, it'll look like Shapiro's fault.

If he stays... well, I can't see how it would end well for anyone involved. Lots of meaningless platitudes and likely disorganization.

Yeah. If I were him, I'd bolt and wait for a better job opportunity. If Rogers is going to take away his autonomy and let him twist in the wind after a season like that, are they really somebody you want to work under anyway?

I think we'll find out what you would do if you were him. Now, if you meant what you would do in his situation, that's probably very different than what AA would do because I suspect he's not quite finished the job in his mind.

It's not about whether the job is finished, it's about whether he'll have the opportunity to actually do the same job under Shapiro. If he doesn't have full autonomy and final say on baseball decisions like the last 6 years, why stay?

I agree. I just think they will work it out.

There was nothing to work out. AA wanted power that he wasn't going to get with this organization, so he left. Hardly a surprise after Monday.

my boss said he knew this would happen because of this presser, where he said AA basically didn't say anything about himself and lauded about how great shape the organization was. Said it seemed like a sales pitch to other organizations more than anything. I didn't hear the presser, but it looks like this was just another clue to the puzzle that everyone couldn't see because of the playoff run.

Yeah, looks like I was wrong.
