Boycott Blue jays movement?
It's pretty clear that AA was pushed out. However, would starting a boycott movement help and catch Rogers attention? The Rogers CEO Guy Laurence is a man who's huge on branding and perception. If he feels the negative feedback towards the Blue jays will start affecting the entire Rogers and its product and the bottom line, do you think he'll consider it?
It's pretty clear a lot of baseball people know that AA is a better baseball person than Sharpiro. He's not irrepaceable but clearly better than Sharpiro.

"And that’s where it broke. In a face-to-face meeting with the senior members of the Jays’ front office, Shapiro said he strongly disagreed with some of the deadline choices that sent prospects out. The initial contract offer to Anthopoulos, according to an official who was briefed on the talks, was a two-year deal, with the second year an option.
It was an insult. By the time Rogers tried to give Anthopoulos a five-year contract, it was already too late."

I'd love to see the source material behind this "established opinion".
Reading Jays boards today just makes me want to bash my head through my monitor. What a stupid **** thread.

I prefer to wait and see what kind of moves Shapiro makes before doing something extreme like this.

Just don't go to the games. And cancel your Rogers services. Toronto sports teams will never enjoy success until we get new ownership.

Will you boycott the Jays next season if they are a contender, or only if they go back to mediocrity?

I wouldn't boycott, but I surely wouldn't pay for any Rogers services or Blue Jays gear or memorabilia if they start tearing it all down.
Boycotting, though, isn't the right maneuver, simply b/c it shows a vote of no-confidence to the players on the field, and ultimately, despite whoever is in charge and making the baseball decisions, it's the players on the field who play their hearts out for the fans.
Gotta show love to the players, even if the management show themselves to be idiots.

Except it's not at all clear that Alex was "pushed out". Edward Rogers and the Jays spent three days trying to convince AA to stay. They offered 5/$10 million+.
Bottom line is that Alex did not want to work with Shapiro. It was Alex' decision to leave and presumably move somewhere that allows him 100% autonomy.

Re: Boycott Blue jays movement?
I really don't see the point of boycotting based on back office decisions.
Now, if the product on the field suffers (if, say, Rogers refuses to to increase payroll and keep the team competitive) then absolutely, stop going to games. But because a different person is choosing players? Meh.

So let's call it a mutual parting of the ways. Just seems odd that in terms of a retention stategy Rogers would low ball him with that 1-2 year contract while the new hire is developing. It sounds like they played it safe and cheap and then had to come back with a save face sweetened deal after all the success. Like any contract the devil is in the details and a change in job description likely sent him packing. As for Rogers this is pretty only year where things have really come together so failure must be so second nature to them as to Set the table and timing of this debacle.

Bottom line is they low balled him big time while they courted his new boss. If AA signs that first shtty deal he looks desperate and they easily fire him a year hence once the dust settles and Shapiro is entrenched. Only reason they upped the offer is optics of how they treat an Exec of Year. Let's not forget this is Rogers we are talking about anyone who has dumped their products understands how they do business.

But originally they offered him a two year deal, the second year being a club option. THen they upped their offer, and then again to what's most reported -> 5/10M. Plus, AA coming back meant he did not have the full autonomy he had with Beeston. He just built a top 4 team, re-energized the fan base, yet he needed to be demoted with scope, and the original contract offer did not exude confidence from ownership. It is Alex' decision to leave, true, but it's also your choice to leave if your employer gave you a vote of confidence and paycut like that.

He built a top four team - arguably the best team in the majors - for a grand total of three months. Right now we are not a top four team. With basically two starting pitchers capable of starting above A ball (Stroman and Dickey), right now we're probably not in the top ten. Obviously you hope to fill those massive gaps with free agency, but that doesn't change the fact that AA's all-in moves created them.
Aside from these three months, the sum total of AA's resume doesn't lead me to believe AA is a world-beater.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

No, Lateral, no. He's the best GM in baseball even though I could only probably name 4 other GMs in the league. He built a top 4 team. We went to the ALCS. That's it. That's the end game. Now that we've gone to the playoffs and won a round he has cemented his legacy forever. He never needs to win again. All those trades back in 2012? That was a masterplan for the deadline deals and it all worked out. His plan was flawless and we made the playoffs once. That's all we ever needed. He is now the best GM in the game and built a Top 4 team. END OF STORY, LATERAL. LALALALALA....

This. This and this.
Every GM in the majors can empty their farm system for a three month run. But that's not sustainable.
While the Jays were a top 4 team last week, right now they are not.

Whoa. I'm not saying he's the best GM in the game. I'm not saying the end game is ALCS. You're saying that, not me.
AA put the team in a position to contend next year as well PROVIDED they can get starters that are at or better than Price/Estrada's calibre. He had the opportunity to get Tulo and Price BECAUSE the farm system had value for him to use, value that he's created. He's shown he can build a farm system. He's shown he can go for it with trades. WIth the deadline deals, he's also trying to force Rogers' hand to increase payroll by increasing revenue streams first.
He deserves to stay, not forced out. This is very different from someone saying he's the best GM or ALCS is the end game.
Man, this is why I don't post online. (not directed at you CC, but at Santoki, Lateral)

They didn't empty the farm for a three month run though. There's a whole lot of other stuff that happened. It's not like there was a crap foundation and trading for David Price and Tulowitzki turned them into the best team in baseball.
Anyway, boycott?

9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.
