He's TSN's very plugged-in business reporter:

No real increase from Rogers, didn't expect anything less. That should give us around 40M to spend if we bring back everybody under control (and we may not seeing as Revere is pretty redundant with Saunders/Pompey around). Should still be enough to bring in a good SP or two.

They can still sign Price if they want to (though I can't imagine Shapiro would). The payroll room is there. It's always been a question of whether they would make that kind of commitment, though, not whether they could.

Payroll should be top 3 or 4, especially after those playoffs games.

$40M sounds like a lot but when you have so many holes in the rotation and bullpen, that money will run out quickly.

How much money you guys think Rogers made for each playoff sellout? tickets, beer, etc?

Seriously couldn't get a bump in payroll?

Now, $140 million is obviously enough to win but still under archiving payroll wise.

To quote our outgoing President:

"The money will be there if we need it".

Hopefully Shapiro doesn't make a habit of overpromising and under-delivering.

Guys..that would put us 8th as of last year..
What did u guys expect? To commit 200? Maybe they can stretch out another 10 or so if we are doing well..
Do people expect Rogers to go Yankees after 2 months of good attendance?
I would have wanted say 150ish..but 140 isn't bad..especially if they continue to spend in draft and ifa

Given that they're getting killed on the exchange rate...this is reasonable. It's also $60 mil more than Shapiro had to work with in Cleveland.

Yep. Shocking that Rogers kept him on this long, the guy was costing them tens of millions annually.

The Cdn dollar dropped, but they sold 2x more tickets and generated 3-4x more tv viewers with the new team.

If MLB is offering, I'll take the money.
