The cynical side in me says that LaCava is being announced as the GM now so that it takes away from the focus on Shapiro in the press conference at 2.

That probably has something to do with it but also, he probably just feels it makes more sense to have someone inhouse that knows the organization so they just get on the ground running.

Freudian slip? Sly joke? Understandable typo because you were trying to post it quickly?

More like auto correct or slippery fingers.

Just a change in title for LaCava. We all know Shapiro is going to be making all of the major decisions anyways

In before the "LaCava is clearly just a yes man" posts.

It's interim status.

I swear there was a tweet/report this weekend that already had this.

It's even faster when you consider there was talks of this already last week. I mentioned it on Thursday afternoon, for example, based upon rumors I was hearing. Who knows when this was discussed with him the first time as a possibility. We'll probably (99.99%) never know When AA figured he was out the door, and Shapiro stared looking at LaCava as a possible replacement (they did have a prior relationship in Cleveland)

Well deserved promotion. He has been a candidate for a number of jobs. He has ties to the AA era and has previous experience working with Shapiro. Obviously a new GM is going to have his own challenges in terms of his ability to pull off successful deals but I'm happier with this rather than a random move. I wonder if this provides safety for someone like Gibbons.

Smart move.
People (players) are familiar with him. Will feel a little less awkward than an outside hire.

Remember AA was an interim too!

Baseball is the most analytical sport out there. I hope Shapiro brings in a sabermetrics guy for GM and as scouts. Screw traditional stats. You're not a true baseball fan if you haven't heard of fangraphs.

I don't think LaCava will be considered at all for the new GM (Shapiro didn't even answer the question of even whether LaCava will be just considered). Quite frankly, LaCava, is too old... Jeff Blair said Shapiro historically like the young up and coming guys. Internally, I actually think Andrew Tinnish may be a candidate (Shapiro even metioned his name in the press conference). But otherwise, it will likely come externally and be a young 25-35 year-old up and comer.
