Colorado Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes was arrested for domestic abuse in Hawaii after allegedly assaulting his wife on Oct. 31, according to Hawaii News Now
.

Gonna be tough for Jose now. And rightly so. Public scrutiny way higher. Leagues are clamping down.
Probably should wait for the details before passing judgment, but this might be yet another sad story.
Is it the money? The status? What makes these guys cross the line? Or is it the same across the board, just more headlines for famous people?

Same across the board, basically. Domestic violence is everywhere. We don't know any details of what happened so don't crucify him just yet...

Just wow.. Would not of expected this out of Jose Reyes..
Makes you wonder if this would've happened if he hadn't been traded

Inappropriate speculation time: aging former-star cycles for the first time to stave off Father Time and doesn't know how to handle the extreme mood swings that accompany it.

I bet the Rockies will try to use this to get out of that contract.

This was my first thought, too.

Pretty early to pass judgement without knowing any of the details. Could be anything from Greg Hardy to nothing.

Doesn't seem like the type so I'll wait for details.

Like anything, it's important to wait for the details.
I will say that Reyes was the guy I'd have least expected this out of. He was always the most upbeat guy on the field and in the locker room. Makes you wonder if baseball was really an escape for him to get out of facing darker parts of his life. Domestic abuse is a very serious subject though, it's truly a terrible thing. We'll have to see. Alcohol is also commonly associated with abuse, so you consider that as well, this could be revealing.

Unfortunate. And it looks like there will almost certainly be a video to follow as this happened in a public setting.

so there's a type that may hit their spouse?
and i'm guessing you spent a lot of time with Reyes in the locker room or around Toronto?
"any guy who does the 'stir it up' hand gesture after a hit
surely can't hit his wife!"
and, for the record, i always am an advocate of "innocent until proven guilty" but jumping to Reyes' defence without any facts to back the defence is even worse than screaming that he's guilty.

We don't have a clue what Reye's type is other than he smiles a lot and plays nice in public. People should never pretend that they know what public figures are really like as we watch small bits of their day to day lives from afar. On the flip side, he could still be a good person who just made the biggest mistake of his life. And people love to judge public figures based on their mistakes far too much as well.

Very few people seem like "the type" until they do it, and then, you guessed it, they are "the type". I'm not going to judge him one way or another. But sometimes people you see who seem nice on the outside, might actually behave differently behind closed doors, and visa versa. It's impossible in life to accurately judge a book by it's cover, especially in cases like this where noone is there to witness what these players are like in the personal lives. And hypothetically IF this story is true, what motivated and led to this incident is also up for debate. We don't know what makes these people tick (in a good or bad way) and what circumstances and life experiences lead them to live their lives the way they do.
The jury is still out on this one. I just hope everyone is ok and gets the help they need (on both sides).

I'm not saying anything regarding this happening one way or another, because I don't know. But hypothetically, if you're an athlete these days -- I'm not going to say public figure, because people still support Terrence Howard for some God knows reason -- even if you really do want to beat the living daylights out of your spouse, shouldn't you realize beforehand that there will be bad, bad consequences for your career and image? Unless, of course, you have Jerry Jones who just doesn't care.

I know that we don't really know anything about ballplayers and how they conduct themselves in their private lives. But still, Reyes was the last guy I expected something like this from. Always upbeat and being praised by teammates and media alike for his energy and positive attitude. I guess his attitude on the field was different from how he conducted himself off the field. Hopefully everything works out for all parties. It would suck to see a family and the lives of Reyes' kids get destroyed from something like this.

I spent years living in a situation where there was constant physical and sexual abuse . I know firsthand that these types of things aren't always thought out and planned beforehand, nor are the consequences considered. Every situation is different though, obviously.
