Sucks to see Liam go. He was arguably our top overall reliever last season imo. It's just a shame that Gibby never trusted him in high-leverage situations and used him in mop-up duty a lot. If Hendriks can maintain his newfound velocity, I can see also see him getting another shot to start.

Hendricks was meh, he got shelled some games . Chavez doesn't even need to be lights out to do well here with our offence , just needs to be solid every 5 days if he's our 5th starter

According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports, multiple teams were interested in acquiring Jesse Chavez from the Oakland Athletics.

Chavez will make around 4.7 mil this season.
What an idiotic trade. 1 year of Chavez at $4.7 mil vs 4 years of Hendricks for pocket change.

Is it April 1st? Is this the garbage we have to look forward to?

Ughhh , his away ERA is 4.95. Just like Donaldson numbers got better, his numbers will be worse in AL East. Who knows maybe can get better? Estrada had era of 4.36.

I hope not, as I expect much better from Shapiro/Lacava.

Good trade. The Jays had virtually no starting pitching depth as it was in the organization and Chavez instantly becomes their 2nd or 3rd best starter at a cheap price. For the cost of Liam Hendriks, I'll take that for sure. I would hope they won't stop there and push Hutchison completely out of the rotation by the end of the offseason.
This would also seem to indicate that Osuna/Sanchez will remain in the pen in 2016.

You think a guy who had a 2.3 WAR in his career year at age 31, with a 4.95 road ERA instantly becomes our 2nd/3rd best sp?
If he's our 2nd best SP this season then no amount of record-breaking offense will get the Jays into the playoffs.

Depends how good you think Estrada is, I suppose. Because Chavez is definitely a better pitcher than either Dickey or Hutchison.

Nonsense. They began with a much worse rotation than this just last season and were one of the best MLB teams in recent memory regardless.

I am starting to feel good about this trade. Same kind of bitching we heard when the Jays acquired Estrada last winter.

Chavez is a downgrade on Buehrle. Dickey and Estrada can't be relied upon to replicate the past season. And it's highly unlikely we get Price again at the deadline.
Chavez is an incredibly mediocre 5th starter outside of Oakland. If he's our 2nd best pitcher this year, we're toast.

Hard and perhaps naive to think that lightning will strike twice, but hey why not.

I have no idea what Buehrle or Price have to do with Chavez being the 2nd or 3rd best starter on the Jays right now. He's clearly a better option than Dickey or Hutchison.

Chavez had a better road FIP than home FIP this year, FYI.

And Estrada was coming off an awful season where he didn't even look like a MLB caliber pitcher. Chavez was good in both 2014 and 2015.

I don't follow this move at all. Hendricks was a great arm for us last year and costs nothing. Probably entering his prime. Honestly I would have been interested to see him get some spring starts and a shot at the 5th SP spot.
It's not like our bullpen is deep as it is. I hope Lecava and his crew know something we don't, because this trade looks like **** to me.
