i assume LaCava's going to be given the golden parachute.

indifferent on the signing, kind of sort of. the most it does is gives you a window as to why AA left. always thought it was his ego. thinking Shapiro made it clear that he wanted things done his way with his fingerprints and his stamp. also betting this isn't the last Indians staff member to come to Toronto.

i guess the next 3- years will show us if it is a good move or not. no more riverboat gambling GM moves.

LaCava just signed an extension with the organization regardless of whether he was the GM or not. He'll stick as an assistant.

Doesn't mean much. He will end going wherever AA ends up.

Apparently contract is for same length and $ as Shapiro's first extension offer to AA. Substantial raise for Atkins

You have to expect that any executive is going to bring in his own people so this really isn't surprising. The results of the team could soften any backlash but this definitely hasn't been the best off-season PR wise for the Jays following a magical run and fans falling back in love with the team.

Like any new GM, first order of business will be to re-build minor league depth

So how long til AA becomes a team's President and hires LaCava as his GM? LaCava of course would still be his assistant but with title inflation he'd be able to lure him away for the "promotion". It's nice that in the mean time LaCava has some job security here. I imagine both sides know it won't last as soon as he gets a better offer elsewhere, where he's given more control over decisions rather than being third in the pecking order, at best, which is what he is in Toronto.

Nah. I think LaCava likes being second fiddle and is more comfortable in that role.

Not a huge fan of bringing in all these guys from the Cleveland organization. Networks matter, but bringing in people you know doesn't necessarily mean those people are right for the jobs.

I don't know much about Atkins so I'll wait to learn more about his team-building philosophy.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

That's the feeling I've gotten for weeks. It really didn't sound like he even wanted the GM job whenever he was interviewed.

So when's the name change coming? Can't say that I really like the sound of Toronto Indians.

Seriously doubt that or he wouldn't have signed an extension after AA left. He was here before AA and looks to be here long after. Never seen any evidence that he has especially close ties with AA and would follow him wherever he goes. He's as to close to being a lifer for the team as you're gonna get. He seems the kind of guy who has close ties with the city and is happy working behind the scenes and won't leave on his own accord.

I guess they wanted someone b4 the winter meetings..but timing seems suspicious..lets get the fans to stop ripping us on the Price fiasco and have them rip on us for not hiring Lacava..

At the end of the day, doesn't matter who the GM is, it's clear Shapiro is running the show.

How many good pitchers did this guy draft? None. They got kluber via trade. Using the blue jays have more resources than the Indians argument is nil if you can't even draft good players
