Chris Davis to Blue Jays? (Take w/ Grain of Salt)

Former puck head Howard Berger @Berger_BYTES tweeted that the Jays are in contract talks with him.
Thoughts? Personally I would love to see something like this happen. Especially with EE and Jose coming up to the last year of their contracts. Realistically I just don't see the Jays coughing up the dough for a Boras client.

EE has 5/10 rights. I don't see him going anywhere this season.

If this happened the Jays would have to be dealing somebody afterward. Can't believe they would not make an offer to a pitcher but then turn around and spend on another bat? 1st base wasn't really a weak spot last season.

I think it would be more about a left handed power bat, rather than 1B replacement.

Sure, but that's a whole lot of dough for power the Jays aren't lacking at all? I guess maybe they're looking at lining up some bats that fit better with Donaldson and Tulo age-wise.

Obviously. Of course Edwin, the only logical choice position and salary wise, only makes about half of what Davis is going to get so the Jays would still be quite a ways off here to fit Davis under the budget. Which is exactly why Howard Berger is full of you know what and only trying to grab more twitter followers.

I'm hoping that Rogers and Shapiro are coming to the conclusion that they need to make some sort of splash in order to keep the fanbase intrigued and continue the momentum from last season. I also believe that they understand that it might not make a whole lot of sense to extend 2 aging vets in Bautista and Encarnacion... As mentioned this current lineup may not be in need of more power, however it is in need of a left handed power bat going forward, especially if we lose one of or both Bautista and Encarnacion.
I hope this isn't just a PR ploy to save face, however that wouldn't surprise me if it was.

Not a huge fan of Davis at all. Strikes out a metric tonne, had a horrific year in 2014, and I have serious concerns that he's a big-time PED user. The guy's built like a mac truck and that neck/jaw line certainly suggest he's on a metric tonne of juice.
On the other hand he is younger and would provide a left-handed bat to balance out the order. I guess if you could somehow lock him up for 4-5 years at Bautista's money it would be pretty decent, especially since it would allow us to trade from our surplus of EE/Cola/Smoak to address other needs.
But yeah, I highly doubt this is happening.

You could say the same about Trout.

1. They're not going to do a complete 180 with their strategy midway through free agency and just days after Price signed elsewhere. I know everyone wants the Jays payroll to be higher right now, so do I, but it is what it is.
2. They do not need to make some sort of big off season splash to keep the fanbase Intrigued, they only have to win games come the regular season to do that. AA made an off season splash 3 seasons ago bringing in several high paid players and all the good feelings were completely killed by a 12-24 start to the season. Winning ball games keeps fans, not splashy headlines.
3. It's not a PR ploy, it's Howard Berger a hockey guy pretending he knows baseball stuff.

They're converting that guy who returned the missed FG for a game-winning TD as time expired in the Iron Bowl a few years ago, to baseball.

Howard Berger doesn't really have any sources. At all. Nobody likes him, and I don't think he's actually employed. He's not really a reporter.

Hmm, I dont know. I could see it if the Jays arent going to bring back EE after next season because on a per year basis they could be getting similar amounts, but that require Rogers to up the budget a bit for this upcoming season.
