Hopefully. I value his 200 innings, but beyond that having to either carry a personal catcher or burn Martin, and the fact a knuckleballer is simply not reliable enough to put in any pressure situation. With Storen now in the pen I think it is time for Sanchez to move up and take Dickey's spot in the rotation and stretch some arms to cover the rest of the innings.

Trading him for a reliever and using that money to take a flier on Mat Latos or Dog Fister sounds fun.

The only problem is when has Jeff Blair reported anything major? I don't think he has and him saying this is just a creditable as you and i doing so.

If they're moving Dickey they need someone back who can slot into a 3+ rotation role. Acquiring Storen grants the flexibility to move Sanchez into the rotation and bumps Hutch/Chavez to the bullpen. If Dickey goes out without a SP in return, then you're undoing some of that positive and back to depending on Hutch or Chavez to give you something at the 5 spot.

Stoman
Estrada
Dickey
Sanchez
Happ

May not have the wow factor of a Price or Greinke at #1, but if we're to use 2015 as an indicator, that is a solid starting rotation. I think Chavez may convert well into a bullpen role, and you can look at Hutch as a long relief and injury replacement starter.

Dickey pitched really well for us down the stretch and against the Rangers, but Jays have a lot of money invested in Martin and need a better back-up catcher to give him more of a break. In such a crucial year, it doesn't make sense to screw up the roster to keep Thole.

But who's going to eat those innings?

Possible answer: Mark Buerhle, as a part-timer. He pitched too well the first half of the year to retire now. He kept the Jays in contention until July. He's got a great relationship with Stroman. Why isn't this happening?

Mark Buerhle isn't happening because he's retiring or he is pitching closer to home next year. It isn't an option.

While Dickey was good down the stretch and in the Rangers series. He was atrocious in the ALCS and that's the problem with the knuckle ball. It's either good, or it's a guaranteed 5-7 runs. It also wrecks Martin and there is too much money invested in Martin for him to be messed up trying to catch balls that are completely unpredictable.

Nothing about Dog Fister sounds fun to me.

Dickey is 41 years old and costs the Jays $12 million + Thole's on the books for $800k. That money and two roster spots can likely be better spent elsewhere.

Let's not forget that JA Happ costs about that. Dickey offers decent value in the 2016 market.

Make it happen, Based Shapiro.

Dickey is already pretty mediocre, and he's now 41. Plus he screws up our front-line catcher and makes us spend money on Thole, a guy who has lost whatever hitting ability he once had. If national league teams have interest it's time to dump him, even if it's just for salary relief. That $12M can almost certainly be spent better elsewhere.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

The other issue (which may or may not be true) is that RA is not the most popular guy in the clubhouse. McCown has mentioned this on a few occasions.

Ah, yes, but you're forgetting that Bob McCown is a washed up, bitter, uninformed radio personality with no insight into the Jays besides what he gets fed from Beeston.

I value Bob McCown's opinion as much as John Shannon's at this point.

Chen would cost a first round pick no? I can't see Shatkins willing to give that up to sign him.

The rotation is barely built to withstand a 162 game grind. Dickey's the glue to that puzzle. Who else can you pencil in for over 200 innings? I cant see a scenario where trading him is a plus for this team.

Reports surfaced Saturday that the Blue Jays next could trade Dickey, but the team has not had any discussions to that effect, sources say.

Blair foiled again in his offseason quest to get rid of Dickey.

Makes no sense to trade Dickey unless you are somehow getting back a better starter. And why would any other team offer that up?

Has anyone on our staff not named Dickey ever thrown 200 innings?

This sounds like a case of Blair trying to get his name in the news, or the team feeding him some misinformation in order to see if any teams will really come knocking for RA.

Blair is such a POS

I am going to call in the next time he's on the radio and tell him to either 1) stop making stuff up or 2) Get new reliable sources.
