Hes never played a full season yet. He still has not really proven himself yet. I think everyone, especially the media, are expecting way too much out of him like hes gonna be a 20 win pitcher right away. Over hyping him is not the way to go right now. I just feel like for everyone who thinks hes gonna be a David Price kind of guy this season, they are in a for big disappointment. Just my thought.

20 wins is a very outdated benchmark. One that doesn't really matter.

I don't think anyone has stated on this board that he will be as good as Price was last season although some are hopeful. But Stro has been very good his entire MLB career so it's hard not to predict that he won't be very good again this season. If he I pitches like he did Sept/Oct last season then yes, you could have one of the best pitchers in MLB. Health is obviously a concern though.

My bold prediction: Stroman will be a Cy young candidate

Ace is an overused term.

In reality there are maybe 5 aces in the league.

Stroman will be our #1 pitcher and people tend to refer to that as the "Blue Jays ace".

But will he be a Top 5 pitcher in MLB? Very unlikely. However the Jays don't need him to be that good. I will say that they need him to be very close to the Sept/Oct version we saw.

But seriously, you're right, he hasn't proven enough to be called an ace. I'm just hoping he puts up 30+ starts this year.

If he plays like he did at the end of last season there is no reason he couldn't be.

Apparently he is working on another pitch. Some sort of quick pitch as per buck Martinez. He's been watching our lineup w their leg kick and wants to find a way to throw other batters like that off

Hoffman - had one inning in ST. Most likely will not be with the big club come opening day. Moving up the ranks tho. Rockies are high on him.

Norris - made two starts. Average. Currently fighting for the fifth spot on Tiger's rotation. Keep in mind he's just starting again from his cancer surgery.

I'd expect an ace to pitch 200 innings, Stroman will do very well - but can he handle that much work?

Kid is a freak of nature, I would be surprised if he can't. He came back from ligaments tears so fast every doctor is shocked.

He's athletic, has a multitude of pitches in his repertoire, he's hungry, and loves the spotlight/high pressure situations. I see no reason why he can't be an ace.

He's very good. I don't know that he completely blew me away during the playoffs, but for a guy his age and with his stuff and confidence, there's no reason why he can't become an bonafide ace someday, barring injury of course.

What makes an ace is a harder question. As a subjective term, I think while maybe wins is an outdated stat, there is certainly an element to an ace "that means he gets results you stupid chief!" ( And 1s for catching that reference).

An ace is someone you expect to take care of his role every time out. I think quality starts = 6 ip+ / less than 3 runs.

Its not just the predictive stats, its results - including consistency.

A true ace gives you more than 6 + less than 3 runs. He's the guy that can give your bullpen rest when needed, stop a losing streak, get a few complete games, a couple shutouts...

Stroman is not really an ace (there are only 5-10 in baseball). He is a solid #2 if he can pitch 180 innings. Sanchez has the potential to become an ace, but that may never happen. Good news - this team doesn't need an ace because their offence and defence are soooo good.
