Floyd in Bullpen. So 2 spots open.

If Estrada starts on the DL, Floyd gets the 5th spot and three bullpen spots are up for grabs.

It sounds like Biagini will get a spot, but I have no idea about the other two. Personally I think Venditte could be effective against lefties, and I've liked Tepera for a while now. But Delabar and Leon are out of options, so who knows.

I assume Barney's making the team, not sure who's making it as the 4th OF.

Tepara and Leon have both pitched quite well this spring. If they keep Biagini and Choate as the lefty, one of them should get the other spot. Whichever one is out of options perhaps (Leon?).

Ceciliani will almost certainly get picked up by another team if they try to slide him back into AAA so they better keep him. He's ripped the ball all spring. Barney should be the extra infielder and should platoon with Goins as well.

I thought Ceciliani had options?

I missed that, I think you're right. I wonder how much that hurts him winning the 4th OF spot? Is Lake out of options?

Based on what I've read they sound like they will start the season with Estrada on the DL. He's starting a Minor League game Wednesday instead of Grapefruit League.

They'll be careful with Estrada I think and it gives them the opportunity to give Floyd a start and maximize his value. Or they could just skip Estrada's start...

Delabar and Choate both got released today, so the bullpen looks like this with Estrada likely headed to the DL

Storen
Osuna
Cecil
Biagini
Venditte
Floyd
Chavez
Leon

I think your list is right, although how to categorize Floyd until Estrada returns is a question for me still.

Top 3 relievers are good. Like the long relief options. This Leon/Biagini/Venditte middle isn't quite doing it for me. Not that I expected anything substantially different, so I'll cross my fingers and hope for at least one of 'em to have a great year. They've certainly put up good spring outings, but that really counts for very very little in my book.

Thanks for the collected links, nice to have it laid out like that. I've been reading as they came out and I know personally looking at 1B's and LFers, I'd take the Jays over the 5 or so they rank ahead of them here, quite easily. Not that they're wrong, just that I have far more faith in a Cola/Smoak tandem than, say, Yonder Alonso.

Sanchez will be back in relief eventually, I'm sure, but you're right that there is very little depth there. Loup finding his 2012-2014 form again would be helpful, but the top 3 are going to be relied on heavily in the first few months.

Anyone concerned about Estrada and his back problems? Looks like he'll be starting the season on the DL. Wonder how his back will hold up during the season.

Pretty sure Ceciliani will make it. Heard Gibby on the fan talking about him and said he has been one of the top 3 players in all of camp.

Based on performance, yes. But Carrera and Lake are both out of options so it will likely be one of them.

Carrera wins the 4th outfielder job.

Biagini, Leon, and Tepera round out the bullpen.

Osuna named closer.

Not a fan of some of these moves.

I would have gone with Ceciliani as 4th outfielder. He can play all three outfield spots and steal the occasional base. I don't mind Carrera but his defense is rather awful, not something you want in a reserve outfielder.

I would have taken Venditte over Leon. I think he could be effective against lefties.

I would have gone with Storen as closer. I don't doubt that Osuna can do it, but he would have been more valuable pitching 1-2 innings at a time in high leverage situations. Perhaps he'll pitch the 8th and 9th some games, we'll have to see. We want him to build his innings up so he can transition to starting as early as next year.

I dont take OD lineups as they are carved in stone. Things change so frequently.

Front Offices do this all the time; keep the guys without options on the OD roster. After a few weeks in the season you would try to sneak them through waivers in hopes that most teams have their roles defined already. Putting them on waivers now or sending them back to their team (ala Rule 5 draft) doesnt help.

Ceciliani, and Venditte had options - Leon and Carrera did not.

Ceciliani is still young and is better off playing more games in AAA than sitting on the bench. Venditte will probably be on this team in a week or so.

This is what i said on the closer's matter;

I think letting Osuna close was the right thing to do short term (this season). Did a lot last year, would send the wrong message to give it to the new guy eventhough you cant go wrong.

But from a business and long term standpoint putting Storen in the closer role makes much more sense. Keeps Osuna's arb numbers down, you can have him take the Dellin Betances role and pitch multiple innings which would giving him more value to us this year and in upcoming seasons to build up his innings to start. Plus it could give Storen some huge save numbers, a big year from Storen (especially on the saves side) could build up his value where we can give him a QO and he would likely decline in hopes of a long term deal (ala Robertson) not often you have non closers rejecting the QO (Miller).

OD rosters dont mean much to me... The season brings so many more changes... closer's job can change tomorrow, nothing is sent in stone.

Off Topic

Could have over 50M to spend next off-season plus 4 top picks (likely at least 2) when Bautista and EE reject QO and if we extend QOs and have Dickey and Storen reject them.
