ST: Red Sox @ Blue Jays | April 8-10 | Sportsnet | The Home Debut

Post#1 » by zilby » Wed Apr 6, 2016 11:39 pm

Honda Home Debut! Honda Home Debut! Jays are looking to bounce back from splitting a tough series at Tropicana Field against the Rays and Chase Utley Rule 6.01 (j). This weekend marks the first time the Red Sox and Jays meet, with David Price making the return since leaving for over a fifth of a billion dollars on Sunday. Will they be able to overcome this and WIN the series? We'll find out! In the meantime, my random post of food for this weekend's ST will be sashimi. Just a big old platter of sashimi. that's what I'm in the mood for right now, so that's how this is going down.

Thank god for the Sox rainout. Now my tickets on Sunday are for the Price game.

Should I boo? I'm not one to boo but I may just do it for his choke jobs in the playoffs...

He's a paid mercenary that joined the Boston Red Sox. Of course you boo.

It kinds of softens it in that the Jays didn't make an offer though. If he had turned down a contract from the Jays to go to Boston he would hear it, but the Jays publically let him walk. :banghead:

Would it have made you feel better if the Jays offered him a dollar? They couldn't afford his asking price, so they didn't bother to waste his time. It's nothing to complain about.

Correction: They could have afforded his asking price, just decided that they'd be cheap and not raise the payroll :P

I suppose I should have been more specific. They couldn't afford his asking price under the budget that Rogers gave them. Either way, the fact that they technically didn't offer him a contract couldn't be any more meaningless.

My point is that because the Jays didn't make him an offer, he didn't get dragged through the mud for not accepting a lower offer, so the average fan at the stadium probably won't care that he left (sad of course, but not mad) and so won't boo him too much.

And it's BS to say that the Jays couldn't afford it. Of course they could, but they won't make a penny less this year without him.

That's mostly because the media was on a ridiculous anti-Shapiro binge at the time and were working under the silly assumption that Price somehow wouldn't have left if AA was running the baseball department still.

And it's BS to say that the Jays couldn't afford it. Of course they could, but they won't make a penny less this year without him.

The Jays management couldn't afford him within the budget that Rogers gave them (at least without hurting the roster significantly in other ways). That was the point.
