Team record 11-13

The following players were hitting under .210:

Encarnacion
Bautista
Martin
Saunders
Pompey

The bullpen had blown more games then we can count and the Astros sweeping 4 games from them was still to come in mid May.

The difference? Nobody was paying attention in 2015.

Oh yes we were.

Indeed, and if you project up to the trade deadline, the trend line may look quite similar year over year. But this time there aren't 15 pitching prospects available to mount a post-ASG rescue.

If the Jays have a +100 run differential at the same time this year, the chances are pretty good that they'll have a much better record.

Another difference is we don't have another bajillion pitching prospects - including some studs - to throw at veteran pieces to go for another highly improbable end of season run.

They can't afford to tread water like last year. This year's reinforcements will be minimal, if any.

Edit: looks like Dagger already made my point :P

“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

The Jays ERA is almost a full run better and they manage the same record. That's not encouraging.

While thats true, this roster has far less holes that need to be filled as well. Theres tons of SP depth that didnt exist last season. Right now the only glaring hole is the bullpen and those are generally the easiest and cheapest pieces to find. The Jays fixed it last season. If Martin doesnt snap out of his funk that might be a concern.

Not to mention a leadership that has a tendency to sell rather than buy.

It will only get worse even if things improve.

It's not people weren't paying attention, they just didn't care anymore because it was what we've come to expect. However, coming off an ALCS appearance we expect more, as we should.

True, people are expecting more, but in doing so there are a lot of fans that fail to recognize the dangers of making sweeping judgements based on small sample sizes. Baseball has a very long season full of ups and downs. You don't win division titles in April.
