ST: Phillies @ Blue Jays - June 13-16

Post#1 » by ldnk » Mon Jun 13, 2016 1:58 pm

Game 1 - Monday June 13 - 7:05 EST
RHP Jerad Eikhoff (3-8, 3.68 ERA) vs. RHP RA Dickey (4-6, 4.15 ERA)

* Dickey is 3-3 with a 3.00 ERA over his last 7 starts.

Game 2 - Tuesday June 14 - 12:37 EST
RHP Zach Eflin (MLB Debut, 5-2, 2.90 ERA AAA) vs. RHP Marcus Stroman (5-2, 4.94 ERA)

* Yep, Stroman has an ERA 2.5 runs worse than Estrada and has a better W/L record.
* 1-2 with a 6.12 ERA over his last 7 starts

Game 3 - Wednesday June 15 - 7:05 EST
RHP Jeremy Hellickson (4-4, 4.34 ERA) vs. RHP Marco Estrada (4-2, 2.57 ERA)

* The Blue Jays hate Marco Estrada and refuse to score runs for him (3.42 runs/game)
* Estrada has a WHIP of 0.90 over his last 7 starts. He is 3-0 with a 2.52 ERA....seriously, score him some runs.

Game 4 - Thursday June 16 - 7:05 EST
RHP Aaron Nola (5-5, 2.98 ERA) vs. LHP JA Happ (7-3, 3.70 ERA)

* JA Happ is 3-3 with a 4.81 ERA over his last 7 starts. He is averaging just over 6.0 innings per start over this stretch

Also note the stupid start time on Tuesday.

Phillies have gone 5-17 since their unexpected hot start and they just placed their ace SP Valasquez on the DL

This is about as good a timing as we could gets or a 4 gamer. Anything less than 3 wins should be viewed as disappointing.

Make sense - Thought all games were in Toronto.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/canadian-lhp-scott-diamond-set-join-blue-jays-roster/

Scott Diamond, who grew up cheering for the Blue Jays in Guelph, Ont., joined Toronto’s heavily-taxed pitching staff Monday.

The Blue Jays have officially selected the contract of Diamond, who has pitched well with triple-A Buffalo since signing a minor league deal with Toronto in November. The 29-year-old started 12 games for the Bisons, posting a 3.16 ERA over the course of 74 innings while striking out 37 and allowing 14 walks.

Though Diamond has yet to pitch in relief at the MLB level, he starts his Blue Jays tenure by replacing Pat Venditte in Toronto’s bullpen. Diamond last started June 7 at Rochester, meaning he’s fully rested should the Blue Jays require multiple innings.

...

Diamond debuted for the 2011 Minnesota Twins and became a fixture in their starting rotation by 2012, when he posted a 3.54 ERA in 173 innings. Despite a modest strikeout rate (4.5 K/9), he succeeded by limiting walks effectively (career walk rate of 2.3 BB/9) and generating ground balls (50 per cent ground ball rate). He struggled in 2013, however, and hasn’t appeared in the big leagues since.

With Travis batting .150 with a .188 OBP after 60ABs what's the proper amount of time before we can show some concern? 100ABs? 150ABs?

The lineup looks terrible when Thole is in there. It's a good thing Carrera and Barney are hitting over .300 at the moment.

Re: Travis, he gets a super long leash.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

If He continues at this pace and once Tulo returns Barney heads to the bench, we're back to the same issue we had the first 5 weeks of the season.

Is this Phillies pitcher that good or the Jays hitters that bad today?

And they just hit and run with the guy instead of moving over the runner.

What's that line look like without the season opening HR?

He's throwing really well. Spotting his fastball. Throwing his breaking ball wherever he wants in and out of the zone. He looks like a guy that RHB's would struggle against.

I mean, he's a bad hitter these days, but that's pretty ridiculous. Especially because he was more or less a league average hitter for the Mets 5 years ago.

What would you do with The Dickey/Thole situation going forward?

Nothing. There's nothing they can do.
