Guessing this is likely the first domino? Or Bautista moving to first? Stay tuned!

I'm still comdfused by this. A RH power hitting OF seems like it would be well down the list of needs without a follow up move.

I agree - do they sell high on Saunders? Doubt it since he's one of our only lefties, I would think they would want to slide him down a bit and try to fit him in between some of our power righties. If the Jays traded Bautista at the beginning of the season the fans would've gone batty, but with him being injured and the Jays going on the run they did while he was gone, he seems like the guy that could fetch the Jays a quality arm, and don't think the fans would go that nuts present day. Unless they traded him for Ubaldo Jimenez.

But this moves gives us a little more speed and a more traditional top of the lineup type bat and offsets some of the power that will probably be lost in the follow up trade.

You do know we just lost bautista for 6 weeks and his replacement was a scrub who can't hit the broadside of a barn now. This also means less smoak. Now we can get a cheap mark Lowe type reliever then were set.

That would be a good argument if Upton was a good hitter but everone should quickly find out that he's not. And he can't hit RH pitching at all which probably only makes him a platoon partner with Smoak.

Bautista isn't getting traded. He will probably walk after the season.

Hate this trade too, Upton isn't that good. He barely has a .300OBP every season and has a ton of strikeouts. Would have preferred Reddick, even at the cost it would take. He would rake at the Rogers center and I believe he is the better outfielder.

I have a feeling the Jays are the only ones willing to take on Upton, which might be the key to grabbing Cashner as well..although it's not like he's having some CY type of season anyways.

Upton is an expensive replacement in the OF, but if it gets Joey Bats to DH or play 1st, then our defence definitely improves and we're able to give Pillar the odd day off.
That's what she said.

Now that hes been traded to the Blue Jays it would be kind of fitting if he changes his name back to BJ

Of the things we need..why an outfielder? We have 3 starting outfielders plus the team all seem to like Carrera, who has performed decently well as a 4th outfielder, so I hope this trade doesn't ruffle any feathers.

Bautista just said yesterday he likes the team and doesn't see any trades at the deadline. lol, I'm sure he's thrilled with the trade. *sarcasm*

The silver lining is that if there is no further movement in our OF, we see less of Michael Saunders in LF.

As for Upton, he comes to Toronto with really no expectations. He's not expected to carry the offense. I think he'll be fine. But then again, I thought Sanchez wasn't going to amount to much this year, and thought the Storen for Revere trade was a great one for the Jays.

I'm starting to see this now. Upton platoons with Smoak against LHP and is the late inning defensive replacement that Careera only pretends to be. Our 3 corner OF's are all below average defensively.

On the bright side, this means we shouldn't be seeing Ryan Goins back anytime soon.
