ST: Blue Jays @ Astros | August 1-4

Venue:

Minute Maid Park, Houston, TX

AL East Standings:

AL Wild Card Standings:

Probable Pitchers:

Monday, 8 p.m: Marcus Stroman (8-4, 4.92 ERA) vs. Doug Fister (10-7, 3.73)

Tuesday, 8 p.m: R.A. Dickey (7-12, 4.66) vs. Lance McCullers (6-4, 3.18)

Wednesday, 8 p.m: Marco Estrada (6-4, 3.02) vs. Collin McHugh (7-7, 4.75)

Thursday, 8 p.m: J.A. Happ (14-3, 3.16) vs. Mike Fiers (7-4, 4.42)

Need to know:

After a brutal start, the Astros have been one of the best teams in baseball since the beginning of June. But they still trail Texas by six games for the AL West lead and sit 2.5 games back in the wild-card race. . . . . The Astros boast one of the league’s best middle-infield combos in Altuve and sophomore shortstop Carlos Correa. . . . Former Blue Jay Colby Rasmus is chugging along as usual: he has a dozen homers, but has also struck out in nearly 30 per cent of his plate appearances. . . . Centre fielder Carlos Gomez is day-to-day with a hamstring strain, the same injury that landed Astros third baseman, and former Jays farmhand, Luis Valbuena on the disabled list Friday.

Nice game thread OP.

Tough series coming up. I'd be happy with a split.

We miss Keuchel. He's been struggling all season.

Jays historically don't do well in Minute Maid..wonder if it's because they're all too distracted by the short porch in left field?

Stroman needs to step up now with the inevitable move of Sanchez. He looked very decent last game until the final inning.

Dickey with back to back poor outings, hope he can bounce back.

Even the maestro Estrada who rarely allowed more than 5 hits this season, gave up 5 hits and 2 walks last outting, hope his back is holding up.

This could be a rough series for the Jays, but with Astros on a 3 game losing streak, they have a chance to capitalize. If it turns out to be a slugging match, the Jays have a good chance to get some W's, but I'd be happy with 2-2 split

For what it's worth, Liriano started yesterday (and lost), so the earliest he could start for us is Friday, where Sanchez is scheduled to pitch. Interested to see what happens.

I am worried about this series. We never seem to play well in Houston.

First three batters up, two liners to corner infielders and Edwin swings at garbage. Nice

Stroman better get the ball down or this isn't going to be a good start. He left pitches all over the middle in the 1st.

Nurse is below average at best.
Masai is overrated.
I dont get how so many people believe in the raptors, they have zero to chance to win it all.
