awesome. his older brother signed with astros for 5 yr 47.5. lourdes is younger has the tools.
as a backup at ss / 2b /cf 3 mil a season is a great.

Wouldn't expect too much from him ( at least in the short-term) but thankfully he didn't cost anything so who cares in the end if he doesn't do much.

We like to target the less hyped Cuban players it seems with the past signing of Hech and now obviously Gurriel.

It'd be cool if he was really good.

Could be an option in the OF too.

Jays are just going after every player named Junior.

Does he automatically go on the 40 man roster?

Yup; major league contract means that he has to be housed on the 40-man.

It's more than likely he has opt-outs. This would seem like a floor rather than getting him for $3/mil a year in his prime years. Still, we'll be happy to pay it if he performs.

Maybe? It's very much an open question whether Urena will hit at the big league level, and it probably won't happen in 1-2 years.

Gurriel was once considered the top prospect in Cuba, and now he's making his way toward fulfilling his big league dream.

Gurriel was hitting .321 with eight home runs, 32 RBIs and a .924 OPS in 43 games for the Havana Industriales this season before defecting with his brother in February after the Caribbean Series in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. A good runner with a good glove, Lourdes is athletic enough play infield and outfield, which is part of his appeal to scouts. He's shown some power potential at the plate and is still honing his overall approach.

Gurriel was hugely hyped after his defection last year. Both him and his brother. I'm pretty surprised they got him.

No idea if this kid is any good, but what a wonderfully pleasant out of left field cue for Shapiro. Have to admit, Between this, the happ signing the Liriano trade and the morales signing, he's starting to impress Me.

Mind you Im more bullish on liriano and morales than most.

Obviously way to early to say one way or another but the only minuses on his resume so far for me are the smoak signing and a boring lackluster low ceiling high floor draft that was all to reminiscent of vintage ricciardi

Consider me cautiously optimistic that Shapiro is starting to put together a nice little resume in toronto so far.

He slides into the top 10 prospects on a really cheap deal.
