Edwin Encarnación Appreciation Thread (Status: He Done Left)

Since the Morales signing essentially settles his fate...
Thanks for the memories Edwin, you've always been a true professional, and we all loved watching you walk the Parrot. The homerun you hit in the 11th, to send the Jays through and the Orioles home, was a thing of beauty!

Think you're a bit premature there, friend.

I'm not sure how it's not obvious he is gone. We literally just signed his replacement

He's gone for sure. Anyone doubting has false hope, or is Mike Wilner.

Added a note just so that people don't see the headline and head to MLBTR to see where he signed.

I like the Morales signing. Rather have Morales at 11 M a year than Eddie at 22-25 Million. I think Morales can fair pretty well at the Rogers Centre. I am not comfortable giving Edwin the years and money he is looking at. This is similar to Happ vs. Price last year. Good luck in Boston EE.

Premature... Until he officially signs somewhere else this thread has no merit.

This really is just a terrible example of 'FIRST'ism.

He's still a better first baseman than Smoak. With that said, we aren't re-signing him. I just hope he doesn't go to some dirtbag franchise like Boston or NYY.

I'm divided on that one. I don't want him to be
good on the Red Sox or Yankees (though I don't think that the Yankees are going to throw big, long-term money at DH types right now). However, having Dombrowski shoot his wad signing Edwin, who then gets old in a hurry? That wouldn't be awful.

The problem is EE is likely to still be good for at least 1-2 more years. And the Red Sox are also going to be good. So even if years 3-5 or whatever are awful, that first couple would be so annoying and painful to witness.

Would've rather signed Edwin than Morales and Pearce. Wouldn't mind giving him 4 years, with the 5th guaranteed if he hits certain benchmarks in the third year. Two years of quickly declining Edwin on a bad contract isn't bad if we're gonna be rebuilding those years anyway.
It'd just be nice if some memorable players could actually finish their careers here.

That's what the Jays offered as reported.
No reason for EE to settle now that he is a FA. He apparently wants to stay in Toronto. Though I doubt he gives that much of a discount.
EE will get 20+ per for 4 years minimum.
