I really hope that this has no semblance of truth.
If there is truth to it, I hope this trade never occurs.

This would be about the most win-now move the Jays could make. Does it make sense to trade a 25-year old with multiple years of control left that still has high-end starter potential for a 30-year old who is in his prime, has two years of control left, and fills what is a massive need for us?

My best bet would be that Shapiro doesn't think so. It would be a short-sighted trade and I wouldn't do it unless there were other pieces involved where we get some high-end prospects, not unlike when we traded Hutch for Frankie, Ramirez and McGuire. Obviously Blackmon is worth more now than Frankie was in July, but still.

Didn't this guy only have one good year?

It's just clickbait. There's no way that happens.

Two solid owar seasons although statistically it does look like only one. Plus he would project to have a higher dwar playing RF. But his bat would obviously decline outside of Coors.

I wouldn't mind him at all, but I wouldn't give up Stroman for him. Much easier to fill the RF hole through FA

Demand Jeff Hoffman back? :)

Yeah, trading off yet another good young pitcher for a guy in his 30s is probably not a good idea.

I was discussing this with my friend earlier today and I agree this wouldn't be the smartest move as he's 30 and will be a FA after this year and really only had that one good year however what if the deal was Stroman plus prospects for Blackmon and Cargo? Obviously I really don't want to give up Stro but this deal would peak my interest a little more than just a sraight swap. What would the prospects be? Tellez? Ried-Foley? Both? It would set up some sort of lineup like:

Blackmon LF
Cargo RF
Donaldson 3B
Kendrys DH
Tulo SS
Martin C
Smoak/Pearce 1B
Travis 2B
Pillar CF

I don't see the team committing to Stroman long term, and his league minimum years are now past. They would have to get a nice return due to arb year control - and Charlie Blackmon by himself isn't enough - but if the team believes he's unlikely to pitch 180+ innings a year and/or will end up in the bullpen in the next couple years, sure, see what's available.

Blackmon actually had a monster year last year, at and away from Coors Field. He actually hit five more homers away from Colorado. I wouldn't say no to him manning a corner outfield spot for the next two years, but Colorado would have to sweeten the pot some.

Blackmon & Miguel CASTRO
For Marcus Stroman

---------------------------

No way they give us Hoffman. So I would try to bring back Castro and they actually might bite. Fill a bullpen need. Castro is a Beast who just has not figured it out yet.

Then Jays have the option of taking Biagini into the rotation.

No?

For those of you who like Charlie Blackmon, you should really take a look at his numbers away from Coors.

Now that Dexter Fowler is going to STL, I wonder if this would have any legs.

You are of course correct that his career numbers have been inflated by Coors Field, but check out his line from last year:

.313/.363/.563/.926, with 17 of his 32 home runs in just 328 PAs

That has to at least raise some eyebrows. It could have been a total fluke, or it could have been a guy figuring something out. It's rare, but been known to happen.

But yeah, the larger sample is why Blackmon wouldn't be enough.

We have Stroman for four years still. Even going through arbitration he'll still be comically underpriced, and that doesn't touch on the possibility of a pre-FA extension.

I see no reason to think that he can't pitch 180 innings a year, though. He has had two healthy seasons, and he topped 3 WAR in each one, and topped 200 IP this past year. Dude's getting seriously underrated around these parts because he had a slow start.

Schad, just curious out of all the OF available who you you like to see Atkins sign?

Wouldn't mind dumpster diving one of the left-handed options coming off bad seasons. Gregor Blanco was genuinely awful last year, but is generally a solid lower-order OBP guy who can more or less cover all three outfield positions (at least insofar as he can occasionally spell CF without the world falling apart) and could serve as a good option if he rebounds. Alejandro De Aza has a different profile, but is a pretty good platoon OF option who sucked in 2016 (mostly because his BABIP cratered), and would be available on a pretty cheap one-year deal.

Not because those would be stellar options, but getting someone in as a cheap LF or fourth OF, depending on your perception of Carrera, with the potential to be useful might allow us to wait and see how things shake out, and I'd rather not have no outfield options as the winter progresses.

Free Pompey!

Seriously though, instead of dumpster diving for Blanco or De Aza, why not just play Pompey? He was one of our top prospects, and while it's understandable that he was buried behind Bautista and Saunders last year, now we're talking about burying him behind mediocrities like Blanco, De Aza, or even Revere?

Give him a shot. Start him for half a season and see what we got. If he's a bust, you can always find a Revere or Bruce type for cheap around the deadline.

I like this solution.
Even if he can't hit, he is still young and will play good defense in a corner outfield spot.

Anyone think bringing back Michael Saunders at a bargain price now would be a steal.
