They'd have taken the original 4 year, $80m offer, no question. Problem being that his agent rejected it out of hand, and we then spent that money elsewhere.

It's pretty simple. We made a 4 year, $80m offer. Edwin's agent said that wasn't good enough. We waited a week. We signed Morales. We waited another week. We signed Pearce.

A month later, Edwin's agent decided that 4 years, $80m was good enough. By that time, we didn't have $20m a year left in our budget for him.

Eddy quickly turned down 4/80M. Shatkins probably thought eddy had larger offers and moved on quickly too. Edwins agent massively screwed this whole thing up tbh

Thought the deal was way worst at first at 60mil for 3 and TO on 3rd year. Now it seems a bit more realistic

3 years guaranteed, plus 5 million if they don't pickup the 4th year team option.

We offered 4 and 20 per. He earned his right to shop around, and we did have to move on decisively from the initial rejection... im sad to see my favourite jay leave the team but happy he's still in the American League and he still gets to come to town. As painful as that may be at times.
