Not a bad signing at all. He's had a solid career, and we don't have a groundball specialist at the moment. A bit concerning that we're piling up on low velocity guys though.

Some combination of Floyd, Loup, Sparkman and Barnes, maybe Dermody, to fill out the bullpen. No big expenditures, the proper way to build a reliever unit

He's married to Allie LaForce. Nice.

Any chance we'd still take a run at Breslow?

I see Floyd making it since we need a long man/emergency 6th starter. Biagini could be the long man, but I see him in a more valuable set-up role along with Grilli. Also, Sparkman likely makes it unless he completely bombs in spring training, since we lose him if he doesn't make the team. Loup, Barnes, Schultz, Dermody and Tepera will serve as depth.

A good signing. Still hoping the team can get one more decent left handed reliever out of the pen.

Another former Indian. His FIP the last few years are a bit concerning but his numbers against right handed batters for his career are generally really good.

I used to love her on that show with Doug Gotlieb. He probably has the hottest wife in Jays history
if not top 5 for sure.

Only thing I don't like about her is she's from Cleveland

According to Matt Kelly of MLB.com, the Toronto Blue Jays will need to make a corresponding move in order to accommodate Joe Smith on its 40-man roster.

Precise terms of the contract are unknown and the club has not confirmed the deal. Toronto will need to make a corresponding move in order to accommodate Smith on its 40-man roster.

That's a bit much for Smith. Seems like the kind of guy that gets DFA'd after 2 months. Would have rather went after Blevins or Logan since they only got one year deals. And I hope he doesn't have marital issues with Allie, after seeing what happened to Ricky Romero.

I think it's pretty fair, actually. He had a rough 2016, but was a consistently good reliever for years before that. Let's just hope he isn't Storen 2.0.

In an offseason where the likes of Marc Rzepletters - a guy who can barely stay in the majors - gets a $5.5M AAV multi-year deal, $3M for Smith is very reasonable.

Shatkins certainly don't seem averse to including performance incentives in contracts. That's an abrupt departure from AA's philosophy.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

It's reasonable, but he seems like the kind of guy that we could pick up mid-season basically for free. We know somebody of this calibre will have a rough first month or two (Grilli, Benoit, etc) which although it may be meaningless, the team will be pressured by the fans to trade them, like we were with Storen as well. It is hard, though, when you need to add to your bullpen and prices are so crazy. But like I said, if we're resigned to adding a RP via free agency, I'd have preferred one good one and a mid-season flier on a reject, rather than two semi-rejects which I consider both Howell and Smith. As with the Morales signing, though I may not like the decision, at least there was money to spend. Could be worse.

hes nothing special...but smith and howell have been consistent their entire careers, every year they give you the innings, and every year they are solid enough...at least they are reliable, and should be okay

as long as the top of the pen performs, these 2 should be good depth
What is basketball.....basketball is life!
