O.T. Canadian WBC team
I didn't see a thread for it. Is Gagne really gonna play? I saw Freddy Freeman committed. Discuss.

No Votto, no Saunders, no Martin. A lot of canucks said no thanks but no thanks.

Re: O.T. Canadian WBC team
Martin and Saunders agreed to play. Martin can't because his insurance doesn't cover him playing SS, which is the only position he agreed to play (I think... could be wrong) and Saunders probably had a condition in his new contract with the Phillies that doesn't allow him to play because he's made out of glass, and instead of taking less guaranteed money he agreed not to play in the WBC.

Re: O.T. Canadian WBC team
I've read that this is likely going to be the last WBC. If so, then good riddance. It's pretty much a sham of a tournament since the players don't take it seriously enough to commit to it and clubs are trying to discourage players from going.
It's sad. Our hockey players are always eager to represent the country during the Olympics. To the point where they get offended if they aren't selected to be on the team. I wish our baseball and basketball players were like that when it came to committing for international tournaments.

Canadian players might not, but did you see the USA, DR, Venezuela and PR rosters? They're stacked. As we've seen with the mens basketball team, I don't think Canadians have as much nationalistic pride as other nations.

lol. But, considering our best player is American-born Freddie Freeman, I guess we can't complain.

Born and raised in California. At least he's an Israeli citizen, I guess.

I would have said no to Ryan Dempster!
How many times did he turn down Team Canada? Now that he likely wants another MLB shot, we are needed to show case him on prime time!

He made it pretty clear in the interview he gave the other day that he has no intentions of making a comeback. They specifically asked him about it, since Eric Gagne wants to give it a shot. I don't think refusing to let guys play out of spite is really the best approach for the national team, either.

Re: O.T. Canadian WBC team
Canada vs DR tonight. The DR squad could be an All Star team while Canada's best player is an American who's parents are from T.O. Goes back to my original point that Canadians, by and large are a lot less nationalistic than most other countries, which can also be told by the complete lack of interest in this team by this very board.

If everyone is healthy.Would prefer him not at leadoff as well but having a high on base guy ahead of JD isn't so bad. Hopefully Travis gets healthy and jose bats 3rd though, some power in the middle of the order without Edwin will be missing either way.
